And it's just so sad how badly Xbox360 is doing in Japan... I'm amazed that microsoft still released Xbox360 in Japan despite such terrible unpopularity. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]

Well thats Microsoft for you, doing the unthinkable. I still think its crazy how they even thought of doing a global release like that with such a number of supplies. _________________
I'm not a fanboy in particular, but it is nice to see that at least in Japan, they appreciate nintendo for what it is. DS expected to do the best in Japan by developers was really a surprise. I'll be the first to admit that when the DS came out initially, I was a doubter. Didn't stop me from buying one on the first day. I won't doubt Nintendo's outrageous ideas anymore.

from the looks of it...SOny and Nintendo are leading while Mico$oft is falling behind the 2.
360 really doesn't have the appeal to JP gamers. few games, expensive hardware, repetitive games...
While PS3 and Revolution sure has higher specs that MS's 360... _________________ PS3 Trophies

You know, Microsoft pretty much failed over in the land of the Rising Sun. They should just recall all the consoles over there and bring them back to the US in order to feed the demand over here. I'm sure they'll make more money that way. I hope Microsoft has learned something here. Pretty graphics and FPS games do not attract everyone. 360 needs some major reworking, and if not for Dead or Alive 4, I would just renounce the console altogether.
I can see why the DS is getting major sales over there. Japanese people RARELY have the time to sit around a console. These people are constantly moving (cmon, these people work six days a week!). So a portable system is the most ideal for them. Like I've said before, the DS owns PSP in the games department. The japanese have already picked up on it. I wonder how long it's going to take those in the US to realize it...
You said it yourself, Japanese gamers are different. They are different then the american gamers. Nintendogs, while great fun game appeals less to the american gamer (in general). That's why the battle is much closer between DS and PSP in N.America.

Well then, we should wait until Metroid Prime Hunters comes out in March. That will get some American FPS junkies to convert...
Speaking of which, I always wondered what was so great about FPS games in the first place (and why Americans just eat this stuff up). Sure, I've played my share of Half-Life, Battlefield and FEAR, but they're basically all just shoot-em-ups. Do people in the US have that much rage in which they must shoot down countless beings in a virtual world? Is there added pleasure in boring a hole in the head of another sentient being? Eh, this probably belongs in a different thread, but oh well. Indulge me... =)
I think the real difference is the perception of a gamer in each culture. In japan, people will just chill on the trains and play their DS without a care. American people are too caught up in looking cool that they would rather whip out something more stylish, such as a PSP. It's more fashionable. Thats another reason why I think the Revolution will shake up the gaming community. It converts people who wouldn't normally be caught dead carrying a DS around into people who can appreciate video games for what they really are, a source of entertainment.

I wouldn't count on that just yet. I've seen quite a few news of 360 games that will be more to Asian taste. Personally I don't think MS can gain significant ground within this coming generation of console yet, but the generation after this would sure be interesting.

almost, but not quite. Asians just prefer to play something other than American football or NFL games..they're not the most popular sports (virtually unheardof until very recently, in fact). Artistic style and appeal also differ quite greatly, as most of you would probably know.. so what is cool looking RPG stuff in US are usually totally lame in Asia. (that BS medieval fantasy archetype? down the drain!!)

he totally got it...and besides most americans play games to have simple, no-brainer fun. games are supposed to be a break from everything else.

IMO i think xbox 360 will appeal better in western countries, microsofts will prolli make their products better known to an area that they are more secure with and understand better, America for example, which is why i think xbox 360 is not going so well in japan, they prolli didnt take japanese consumers as their main priority.

Reggie Fils-Aime the VP of nintendo america said something pretty insightful in a recent interview. He noted that sony being an electronics company has built the psx as such to be a hub for entertainment, MS xbox is similar with its pc influences while Nintendo is and always has been about video games.

Well that has been their motto for a long time. Making game systems to play games. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]
