why does Microsoft still haven't sold so much consoles?

ERm, well actually Microsoft has sold tons of systems. They sold phenominally in North Amercia and Europe, just on one game.

Sir, are you on crack? Microsoft hasn't gotten near passing Nintendo. Nintendo has almost sold as many Wiis in it's first week, as Microsoft has sold 360s all year.

Ferretmage, lax U.S. because that's just how I see the country is. Unemployment rate is 5.1% while Japan is 4.4% (2005 est.). A lot of U.S. students would drop out of school or get fired, maybe from just being lazy or doing illegal drugs. While in Japan, many students would take speed (amphetamines) just so they could stay awake, study, and make good grades. I have to admit, this is quite bias of me. But I just see U.S. being more laid back or loose than stressed out.

But being from so much stress, death rate from suicides is quite high in Japan. The cause of the suicides were mainly because of economic and social uncertainties. But you cannot judge standard of living from that alone. Determining standard of living is actually hard. From wiki:
Quote:
The Standard of living refers to the quality and quantity of goods and services available to people. It is generally measured by real (i.e. inflation adjusted) income per person, although sometimes other measures may be used; examples are access to certain goods (such as number of refrigerators per 1000 people), or measures of health such as life expectancy.

Life expentancy at birth at U.S. is around 77.85 years while Japan is around 81.25 years. U.S. has an infant mortality rate of 6.43 deaths of 1,000 of live births while Japan's 3.24 (2006 est.). If I recall correctly, in Japan, most T.V.'s in average household are already HDTV. Most of their transportation means are much more Earth friendly. Average broadband services is $41.00 for a 100Mbps/85Mbps (Dec 2005) while I'm paying for my 4Mbps/512Kbps Cox cable (U.S.) internet connection for the same price -_-;. Most of the population owns a cell phone where they read their e-mail and watch videos. You know what, just read this to make my comment shorter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_of_living_in_the_United_States

Also, I included divorce because that too affects standard of living. An ex-partner would either have a higher standard of living or dropped. A child would be poorer or will be much better off. Nonetheless, there would be at least one person that will have a lower standard of living before or after marriage when divorced.

And I'm sorry. I didn't think that I needed to be specific on that one sentence that you picked out because the words I said before it were talking about being in the fantasy world. I thought it would be clear on what I was looking for. Like, would a kid from Malaysia relate much better to The Simpsons' political jargon or analogies or to the dramatic sequences from Naruto?
Ferretmage wrote:
Simpsons-Running time 17 years, 384 episodes.

One Piece- Running time 7 years, 286 episodes.

Naruto- Running time 4 years, 213 episodes.

Now based on these number of some of most popular anime today compared to the Simpson who would you say is more popular?

Naruto. Mainly because Naruto is being watched by millions from Japan, another number from North America, and another number from various other countries. So I say Naruto is more popular. I would throw in the Naruto video games if I want to make its popularity higher.

Frundock, of course Microsoft's commitment to North America is pretty obvious. But they're having such a hard time because there are so many people who either don't play video games or they've already been influenced by the Japanese video game market. Surely, if the Japanese hadn't shown up, it will be a piece of cake for Microsoft. It will be easy like putting Windows on every PC sold.

And no, Microsoft hasn't succeeded on passing Nintendo worldwide as Nintendo is still rolling out their Wii units to North America while Microsoft still have Xbox360s remain unsold. All that Microsoft has beaten the two players at is having the first worldwide launch. And the only thing that's good about a worldwide launch is that you get to spread out the consoles equally at the the same time. However, there was a couple of flaws to this method.

First, it wasn't totally equal since they didn't produce enough for each country. The good thing about the shortage is that they get publicity of having the consoles "sold out."

Second, the defectiveness of the units. Not only they're gonna try to help the consumers from just one country but they're gonna hafta help the consumers from other countries as well simultaneously. You also get the publicity about the downsides of the units worldwide.

Third, shipments. Shipping costs money and you'd be draining your wallet right away rather than at a gradual rate or balanced.

Unlike worldwide launch, if you launch to a certain country first, you will be selling your units more at a much efficient way. And if there's a problem, the problem will be attempted to be fixed for that country while the other countries will not experience them for their later launch.

And I don't think Japanese corporations are ignoring Microsoft. It's kinda hard to ignore monopoly. But I bet you that they're confident enough to brush Microsoft off their minds because they have made such a huge impact on the video gaming world and they know people will buy their stuff.

Why we're talking about the economy, are we talking about the games? Anyway, here's the deal about Nintendo in the '80's...

Sure, the Family Computer(NES) is groundbreaking, but not revolutionary either. And game and watch is actually cool but its the same as the Atari games but in handheld and they have detailed graphics than the blocky Atari 2600...

This is the big deal, NES is just a upgraded Atari 2600 and a console version of the Game and Watch. They only make the Atari games looks like better because of the graphics but the gameplay feels the same like the Atari 2600.

OK, SURE, there are you have to complete mission based games like the Mario Bros. series but thats the only game I like on the NES. Infact, I like the more simpler games like Galaga better. Why is that? Because NES games are cheap!

If you actually seen there games like Legend of Zelda, Double Dragon, Metroid, Contra, Gradius, Castlevania, Bomberman, Lode Runner, Kid Icarus, etc... they're just the improved version of Atari 2600 games before, it feels like the illusion of being immersive and interactive because of the graphics. But in reality, what you really do in those games are going from Point A to point B.

Whats up with that? And they're difficult, have you actually finished REALLY those games? The NES ones? I think not, unless you do the save state feature in some NES emulators!

Now, people never care about those games anymore. Even the vintage gamers likes the likes of Space Invaders and Pac-MAn because its simple enough that they actually played it. Unlike the NES ones...

Wow japan has .7 percent less unemployment. I'm sorry but that is miniscule, no matter what you may say about numbers. It may be important to mention how much larger the USA's population is that Japan's. With such a larger number, it's amazing the gap isn't far bigger.

You talk about schools? I have a friend who started going to school in Japan. He was amazed at what they could get away with. They could ditch class, be rude to teachers and have bad grades, but they still passed the grade and didn't get detention. Sounds like a real plan for sucess. If you want to read more about the crap that goes on in Japanese schools, hear it from a teacher. gaijinsmash.net. You mention that naruto has video games on it, and that makes it more popular than the simpsons? There are numerous simpsons video games, ranging from Snes to xbox and even on PC. Simpsons is far more popular than naruto ever will be.

you talk about broadband being cheaper there? Not really. I get mine for 17 bucks. Also in america, there are tons of free wireless networks. And most americans with cell phones can check their email and such too. I can do that on my razr.

I'm sorry, but you talk about the higher standard of living, but Japan is notorious for its society problems. One psycologist even stated that it seemed like their culture came from hollywood videos. Should I mention that women are considered parasites or "parasito" as they are called, if they don't stay at home and make babies?

Also Japan has teenagers that are so put out by Japanese society that they stay in their rooms, and NEVER leave. There are millions of them.

I don't dislike Japan, but saying that they have a higher living standard is quite far fetched.

I'll get it for final fantasy 13

*sigh* It's sad when people are having to buy a 600 dollar system for one game.

Honestly, Sony doesn't even make it, its a third party developer. Play Final Fantasy CC, and Fire Emblem for the Wii, if you like that stuff.

Personally I got the Wii for these especially.

A brief interruption, if I may.

Quote:

It actually went back further than SNES. It was as far as NES itself.

Quote:

Being a Simpsons fan myself, I'd probably have to disagree just a tad bit, because Simpsons is indeed losing its taste in content nowadays.
Still, don't think I have anything better to say for Naruto. Confused

Well, Here are a few games I have bought, or that I am going to buy. Take in in mind that these screenshots are really distorted because I shrunk them up a lot.

RED STEEL

[IMG:640:339:1e41676631]http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4888/redsteelgg7.png[/img:1e41676631]

Your Japanese girlfriend is kidnapped and her father is murdered by the Yakuza. You travel from San Fransisco to Japan and track them down, with gunfights throughout the Tokyo underground. This game is really fun, I got it on launch day.

CALL OF DUTY 3

[IMG:::1e41676631]http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/7543/callofduty3tv1.png[/img:1e41676631]

Third installment of the award winning WWII series. I think the game is a lot more fun with the Wii controller.

FINAL FANTASY CC

[IMG:640:440:1e41676631]http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/643/finalfantasyxe7.png[/img:1e41676631]

The second Final Fantasy in the CC series. Squre tells us that it's a very promising title.

FIRE EMBLEM

[IMG:635:430:1e41676631]http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1923/fireemblemtx5.png[/img:1e41676631]

Never played the Fire Emblem series before, but I think I will try this one since Atlas is an exceptional RPG developer.

HEROES

[IMG:640:445:1e41676631]http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4397/heroessj2.png[/img:1e41676631]

This game features the violent battles of the worlds assasins to become number one. I played the previous game, Killers and I hope to god this one is just as good.

METROID PRIME CORRUPTION

[IMG:632:452:1e41676631]http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/2463/metroidprime3bx4.png[/img:1e41676631]

The metroid games have always had beautifull graphics, but this installment looks really great. I will get the pre-order the moment it comes out.

SUPER SMASH BROS BRAWL

[IMG:640:495:1e41676631]http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/6969/smashbrosbrawlcp4.png[/img:1e41676631]

One of the most antcipated games for the Wii. If this game is as good as Melee then we will have another classic. It's kick ass already because it's going to have Solid Snake in it.

GRAND THEFT AUTO 4

[IMG:640:490:1e41676631]http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/7813/jta4td7.jpg[/img:1e41676631]

Nintendo is in negotiation with Take 2 about how this is going to work out. After they agreed to release it on the 360 they seemed to be interested in Nintendo as well. This great news for Nintendo fans.

There are a lot of other great games coming out for the Wii, but these are the ones I am most interested in right now. I hope it helped out a bit.

I think game developers will consider Nintendo, after all, there's no top notcher right now in this console wars right now, unlike in PS1 and PS2 days...

And M$ already knowe their lesson, infact, some great and superb games in gamespot are 360 games...

Stephen Colbert says, "Wii!!!" I say, "When, and how much???"

By the way, you can beat up Nancy Pelosi on the Wii. I'm sold...
