Yep. First time a system has cost 600 dollars too. And the first time there has been a console in such small supply.
It's not an amazing system, it's just that there are very few of them. The people who bought them didn't really want to play them anyway. Nobody would get shot over a console, but they would get shot defending 2000 plus dollars. Those people in the riots weren't at all excited about how good the PS3 was.
If there were only 400,000 Wiis, the same thing would have happened. But let's look at it this way. The Wii is first time a console has moved so far off the roadmap into a new form of gaming that is truly revolutionary and can be played by people young and old. The first time you can actually interact with your game in the real sense. Changing graphics, but leaving gameplay the same is is not really change. So for the first time gaming has really evolved and become Next Gen.

Yeah, you're right, it sure didnt happen before for a system. Lets just admit it, its a riot I see in that, not really fanaticism. Atleast the Wii fanboys arent as violent...

but the question is why did it only happen for the ps3 and not there others (yea it meant that a hell of a lot of people had 600 plus $$ on them that day) so someone had to know something like this was going to happen

Demand and fanatism ? When you know Nintendo intends to ship a few millions consoles worlwide, there's less point in going in line. Fans went in line and many got what they wanted.
PS3 was deemed to be in short supplies. Ebayers around the country went to get some... They knew money was to be made out of it. PS2 did the same thing, 360 did the same thing.
