| I think we all have been in some sort of class that has you watch a movie like "Braveheart" or to "kill a Mocking Bird," and then makes you take a test because it has an in-depth meaning. But what anime's if any, should the school system allow that students could benifit from. |

Eh, anime in a broad sense (not the TV series) is already in a good number of schools' Japanese classes. A lot of them use Miyazaki-san's films.
In general, though, the only classes that might use anime are the Japanese classes, and for the most part, anime doesn't use a level of grammar that's appropriate for foreign language students below the AP level in high school.
I know that, on "free days," my school's JPN 7-8AP class occasionally watches anime, but it's used as a placement test of sorts, with the teacher forcing the AP students to take notes on what's going on.
In general, I don't think anime is used in schools... at least, not very much. |

The problem is that you're thinking of 'anime' instead of 'historically relevent' or 'classical.' Movies like 'Ghandi' and 'Nicholas and Alexandra' and the ilk are shown not because of some 'in-depth meaning' but because they tell (largely) true stories. I mean, it's kind of fun to watch historical movies instead of read about them (provided the topic is interesting, of course).
When I talk about classical, I'm thinking of movies like 'Death of a Salesman' and 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' which were based on plays and books and transformed into movies. They're interesting not because they're necessarily better, but because you get a different view of a story when there's a different person directing it. Also, the medium is the message...
I can't comment on Japanese classes, but I think an anime like 'Grave of the Fireflies' might stand a chance of being shown. Again, a lot of anime just doesn't have any particular signifigance in regards to what is taught in Western schools.
Of course, perhaps it's better to not compare anime with traditional films, but instead with animation? Granted, I doubt you'll find any academic who will place anime next to some of the Walt Disney classics like Snow White, or some of Chuck Jones's creations, but perhaps that's not because of any 'inferiority' but due to Anime being quite young in compairison. I mean, it's only been around since what, 1963?

| I say it should be. I can't think of any good examples right now, but a lot of anime has really good themes on par with "The Classics" and they'd be far more fun to learn about. |

| I don't really think most animes are for educational based purposes, mainly for entertainment. If schools had anime, they should make it in a club form or interest group. |

anime doesnt offer any curricular value aside from entertainment.
maybe for art classes, but its up to the student to want to choose to do an anime art style, not the board of study or the teacher.
as u said, they show those films because they can be analysed. but, also because they are fairly well known films. the assessors and teacher would be able to relate the answers to the topic, because they could find a copy of the movie to review themselves.
how many teachers know about anime anyway? let alone actually have the time to watch a full anime series?
as for the initial question, i think the only anime that is worth reviewing would be evangelion, honey and clover and jin roh. < i think these are the only ones that are worth watching for class film-analysis. _________________ [img:567:138:151453bb6b]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/wahagifsda.gif[/img:151453bb6b]

I wish. But that ain't really going to happen. Mostly becuse there is still alot of sentamit about animation is genreal. "Cartoons, are for kids" is still very much in the minds of most adults.
And if any anime is to be shown, it can't just be any anime movie or series, some thing along the lines of "The Grave of Fireflies" type of anime were in depth questions can be asked and the such. |
