Anime viewing in school eh?
Well there are a lot of great anime that could really be an educational esperience... some may view it as an artistic representation of the animator's perception. Like the "Spirited Away" that got nominated for a lot of awards of it's greatness.

And there are a lot of other historical anime out there that portray some very detailed accounts of various famous people!
So I guess it's not possible at all! _________________ EX-mod |

It depends.
In middle/high school, anime may be shown, but the central focus won't be on anime, but the content of the clip. Needless to say, most anime are not education by academic standards, therefore the odds are slim.
However, various colleges already have courses dedicated solely to anime, more so art schools. |

At my school which is a laptop orented school ( we have wireless internet in every single room and all of the notes that the teacher's write on the board are transfered to our computers) my and my friends watch anime all through class, so there is really no point (at least at my school) trying to use anime for an educational benifit. (though in my american history class(which is full of lies trying to keep us american's blinded from the truth and only showing us the views that "they" want us to see and not see it from the views of people from other countries which can be more truthful that how "they" want to teach us, i think they want to brain wash people in to thinking that our country is the best and how its perface compaired to other countries) our teacher show us an anime that showed WWII from the eyes of a Japanese person during the boming's) _________________ I HOLD NO RESPONSIBILTY FOR YOUR MISTAKES WHEN USING your regestry editor

at my school, some of the teachers(their rarely) tell us students too watch these anime. once GTO was showed on tv. one teacher knows that students can learn from that anime so this teacher told his students(he's not a teacher of mine) too watch it, i only heard this from my classmates so i don't know if this teacher ask them any question at all about what happen.
when my sis is in third yr highschool she got a teacher who loves anime also. so this teacher made a quiz which have this question
what do you call a female robot?
a. Marionette,b. Android,c. Zoids, d. (forgot this one)
but i know that it has mostly anime questions
the truth is i can't believe that this teacher made such quiz.
but the school never shows an anime. but i heard this teacher brought his laptop and borrows some of my sis cds and watch it. but i mostly see teachers playing pc games not watching anime.
but i believe that some anime have moral values and teach us students too learn more. _________________ If you ask a stupid question you'll get a stupid answer

we have an anime club at my school. We are realesed early from the class before lunch starts. We get about 2 hours of viewing time, on three out of our five day school week. Are we really the only school with an anime club? |

Anime is shown in my old school. in grade 9 or 10 i think. Spirited Away
Ashdate is right about the culture thing. which is why anime in my old school is only shown at the middle school level, because any deconstruction on our part (Australian) would be fairly superficial. That school level doent really require the level of sophistication in analysis you expect from later years. Attention in senior secondary school grades is focussed on texts from 'the canon'.
edit: plus, anime is very different to film and even animation in the western tradition. so theres a lot of crap that comes with teaching anime to a western audience. the biggest problem is its not even in English. many series and even movies have poor dubbing/subbing. |

the thing is if anime is allowed...then so should animation from every other culture...
my school already has manga along with other comics...
I really don't care whether they're there or not...but having them does promote a sense of multicultralism |
