I saw this posted on another forum, but I know the true audience for an article like this is right here.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/oukoe_uk_japan_maids;_ylt=Aj3Dk93_g_Mq3OLD8mIkwHUjr7sF;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl
or try this link if the above is expried http://tinyurl.com/bjqa5
Article says there are 30 cosplay cafes in Akihabara alone! And of course, surprise surprise, they cater to otaku. My favorite part was having a private chat with a girl in a room full of anime and manga for 9,000 yen, haha.
Has anyone been to one of these? What is the experience like? Is it like super-expensive? I know there's a ninja-themed resturant that's like $100 US to eat at. Oh man, I wanna go to one of these, but I doubt my gf would be happy. Maybe she'll see the humor in it and go for it anyway, wish me luck _________________

Some how it just figured there would be places like this in, of all places, Tokyo. It looks like fun to go to. One day when I go to Tokyo I will stop by there and check it out and ofcourse take alot of pictures and ill post them here for all you to see (bow down and worship me) _________________ "Our friends should be companions who inspire us, who help us rise to our best." |

Maids don't really intrest me as much as the cosplay in general. Kasumi or Hitomi from DOA serving me coffee would be so awsome. _________________ [img:450:200:d0a28f8b61]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/9979.jpg[/img:d0a28f8b61]

spankit>> i would not mind paying big bucks to see you actually working in one... hahaha... hmm i don't know.. since the news said that mostly "geeks" populate the place then i don't want to mingle with them... cause i know those geek that they are describing are the hard core ones... _________________

Yeah, I think you're right. A guy in another forum I posted this in said a typical visit is about 2,000 to 4,000 yen... and you can bet most of that is going to the girls' paychecks... or at least I'd hope

They're catering to tourists which may either alleviate or exaccerbate the level of otakuness in the clientele. Since dorks from all over the world come to Akihabara, you'd probably consider it's only the most dedicated of the bunch.... like me!!

haha thanks to this thread.
i've decided that for my cosplay convention
me and a few friends might actually cosplay as
maids just in general gothic lolitas.
should be fun! if i end up making the costume
i'll take pics and post. _________________ "The basis of optimism is sheer terror."

Wow..... that is one interesting article. The one that strikes me the most is that there is one salon that has staffs wearing maid costume too. In the article, they also state one customer that came to the salon 4 days a week to get his haired shampooed only by the maid.....
Now that is what I call "hardcore otaku" xD _________________
