| As for grabbing a Chinese version, the Kinokuniya near me has 0% Chinese stuff - so I can actually get the original versions. Not a fan of Chinese translations of Japanese as a platform to scanlate or even read. Doubly so since the money doesn't actually get to the author or their publisher. (most such firms in Japan are 10-20 employees or less and every sale actually does count) The lack of respect for international copyrights and patents makes me actually go out of my way to NOT buy things from China. It just drags us all down farther into a nation of wage-slaves. Doubly so for some small Manga publisher in Japan. |
Unless you are talking about bootleg publishers ( which Kinokuniya will never carry ), there is money pouring back to the original Japanese manga publishers in the form of license or royalties.
Ever since Taiwan enacted their copyright laws, there is rarely any more manga exports from them that is a bootleg anymore. The same goes for Hong Kong ( Hong Kong unfortunately still heads the DVD bootleg list ). Tong Li, Jade Dynasty, SPP ( which is owned by Kodansha ) and many manga companies are in Taiwan or Hong Kong. Chuang Yi of Singapore is also a legitimate manga buisness that deals in Chinese publications and now some English titles as well.
Beware of publications Tian Xia from Malaysia ( do not mix it up with Tian Xia Publications of Hong Kong ) or publications from China ( the latter usually carry different cover pictures ). They are the manga bootleggers.
So just buy the legitimate Chinese publishers just like how you would buy legitimate DVDs. |

That's nice to know, but I still have problems with supporting Chinese made products and companies, since they are quite effectively grinding us under bit by bit - and our own companies are willingly let it happen in order to make more profits. It's the same reason I'll never shop at Wal-Mart. Every dime you spend at Wal-Mart versus local businesses is that much closer to the day you wake up to find everthing else has gone out of business and your choices have shrunk to exactly one.
Taiwan and Singapore aren't a problem, though, and I also buy products from there if I can. It's just that everything else you buy from forks to VCRs these days seems to be made in China.
Plus - I *like* giving my money to the original publishers instead of a small percentage via some partner.
P.S. Yes, the DVD bootleg issue is astonishing. I've even run across very good Chinese dupes in stores like Blockbuster - they have no idea that they're buying pirated copies the copy is so good and the damage is so invaseive.. Trying to buy Anime online is also very hard as everyone here is aware of. 90%+ of all the stuff for sale that I see isn't legitimate. |

| I don't know about that, but the rumors from Japan are that the author is trying hard to get it made into a TV series. I expect it to happen within a year or so. This also means the author is likely aiming for another 30-50 episodes to end it.(most likely they would try for the ending to be at the same time in both series) 200 chapters and ~80 episodes(3 seasons) seems about right to me. |

| Heh. Maybe two seasons, then. The typical Manga-->Anime ratio is about 3-4 chapters equals one half hour of Anime, so if the series ends around 180-200 or so, that's at least 2 good seasons worth of stuff. |

a lot will be cut out or condensed if it were to ever be made into an anime. Action sequences often take a lot of pages to draw, but really only happens in a mere matter of seconds...
and then we will get the usual bunch of people bitching about how the anime isn't the same as the manga... |

Plekto,
Plz don't post these things up anymore, the scanslation groups work really hard to do these things, and you are not in a position to make any choice. They go through steps to finally release it, and all those steps are hard. First IF THE TRANSLATIOR HAS TIME, he/she will translate a chapter or so, and it takes up to 20min(fastest freaking person i know Jujubix) to 1 hour(newb translators). Then comes the hard part, editing. Don't think editing is so easy, first i thought it too but i've tried it with PS and took me 30min to do 2 pages, AND it's the WORST quality. The editors have to put in BIG CHUNK of their time IF they have it. They sometimes have to re-draw and make new text bubbles. It's not as simple as erasing original text and input the translated ones. Then they have to send to the ProofReaders for problems and get it back and correct them. all this process takes about half a week.
Let me say this straight, go and join a group and do some work then you'll find out how hard it is, all talk is nothing. And editing is not as easy as getting rid of old text so you better read something like a instructional website about editing and find out how the REAL editing is done.
damn, and we all got life, at least i know i do..... |
