How does a compliment affect you?

A friend or a stranger walks up to you.
You're not doing anything important, at the moment.
They compliment you and then ask if you could do something for them.
Well, how would you first react?

Yeah. If anyone gave me a compliment (with it being so rare) I would probably do what they ask. Dunno why.

i rarely get complimented and if that compliment comes right before a favor to be asked of me.. i would look at the person with a smirk on my face and go... "nice try"...

If this is my friend, I would be right away suspicous. Just because of an incident. My friend calls up and tell me to come over right away. I tell him I'll be down in about an hour. After I eat and take a bath(have not bathe in 4 days). He tells me to come down right away, Now. I ask him why? If he doesn't tell me why, I'm not coming down. He breaks and tells me that his dog had a case of explosive diahrea and had sprayed a room. He needed my help to clean up. So if any of my friends complimented me, I would automatically be suspicious.
If it was a stranger. I would be suspicous. Is this happening at night or day?
Am I alone or with my friends? Where am I? In a crowded place or just me?
Is this person alone or with others? What is that they needed done.
Mostly, it's what they needed done. I think about it.

I insult myself. Does that mean I have self esteem issues, or am I merely keeping myself from standing out from the crowd (the nail which stands out gets hammered down)?

Whenever someone compliments me I just laugh it off, it's not that I don't like compliments but I usually don't get any. In the beginning of the year this one girl said that I was pretty because I was tall and slender, so I just laughed it off a bit. I'm not really good with compliments.

Im a sucker for compliments. I will automatically thank the person who gave it to me, and if they asked me to do something I would probably do it. Of course it would have to be within certain boundries of course, but most likely I will do what I can to help. If it was a stranger..... I probably would just thank them and if they favor was REALLY small like money or a ride I would probably do it.

Ugh.. the only compliments I get are usually for my jokes or for my schoolwork. Other compliments just make feel strange, because I never get them. The last time I got a love letter (with compliments, obviously) I thought that it was misdelivered. I still think so, since that was never cleared up. Anyway, a compliment is a sure way to get my attention (in a "why are you sucking up to me?" kind of way), and if the something they ask for is within my abilities I guess I'll do it. If not I'd admit that I can't pretty much right away. Why don't people ever get complimented on their modesty?

If it was a stranger... I don't know. I'd probably think "you're that needy?" before doing anything. Either way, the most appropiate answer would be "question judgement".

If I receive a compliment, I would naturally compliment them back. That would be the nice thing to do, unless it's a sarcastic compliment..then I wouldn't, I'd just tell them to shut it.

Sometimes I say thanks....then ignore them....

Sometimes I'd just do what they ask (I realy am to nice for my own good~basterds)

But more often...I usualy laugh it off or make a joke to make my self seem pathetic.....(I have low self esteem issues....so I tend not to believe compliments).....

I quickly try to determine the person's intentions and then determine whether or not it can benifit me. It's a trust problem I have, because most of the time when people talk to me or compliment me, they want something.
