Hi peeps!
I searched on the web for Gundam TV series. I noticed there where a lot different ones, Gundam ZZ, Gundem Seed, G Gundam etcetera (http://www.animenfo.com/search.php).
If al these are related somehow, does anyone happen to know the correct orther to watch them. Because I don't want to watch a later published series which I can't hardly understand 'cause I did not see it's predecessor .
Thnx for reading - and pls help me out here _________________ 'berado chirodoren'
as far as my minimal gundam knowledge goes, each series is seperate from all others. they take place in one of two settings, and the plot is usually about earth vs space colonies _________________

OK, Gundam is like this... They are separated into many different timelines. The first of which is the Universal Century (UC), which is the timeline for which the majority of the Gundam anime take place in (hence they are related to each other, and some are direct sequels of one another). Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Gundam ZZ, Char's Counterattack, Gundam F-91, Victory Gundam, and the OVA's, Gundam 0080, 0083 and 08th MS Team are all part of the UC timeline. So it's best if you watch these in order (the OVAs take place during and after the original Mobile Suit Gundam, and the rest of shows are chronologically in the order I listed). However while you might miss some things if you don't watch the other UC's, some of these shows can be watched without knowing the background behind it, for example 0080, 08th MS Team and Victory, mainly because the characters and stories are pretty standalone.
Starting in 1994, Sunrise and Bandai decided to go a new direction and created the Alternate Universe Gundam's. Each of these shows take place in a different universe, so they don't have anything to do with each other (or so it is said). These are G Gundam (Future Century timeline), Gundam Wing and its OVA sequel, Endless Waltz (After Colony Timeline), and Gundam X (After War timline). Each of these can be seen without watching any other Gundam shows before because they have nothing to do with any Gundam show from before (though for Gundam X it's better if you know what the theory behind Newtypes are--and that's UC stuff)
Next, there's Turn A Gundam (Correct Century timeline), which takes place in its own alternate universe timeline. However, throughout the series they show various suits from older Gundam shows and it seems to establish that all the alternate universes are actually part of the same universe, except they take place over an extremely long time which allowed the world to evolve through the different timelines. This theory hasn't been accepted by everyone yet, but it's something to keep in mind.
And finally there's Gundam SEED (Cosmic Era timeline), which is Sunrise's "Gundam of the new millenium." This is another alternate universe series (ignoring the Turn A Gundam theory), however, it appears that Cosmic Era will be the first non-UC timeline to get a sequel TV series due to rumors of a possible SEED sequel in the fall... So we'll see what happens.

watch only uc gundam where the original (yes i say original cuz many of the later gundams *cough*seed*cough* were ripped from them) and they are actaully pretty decent to follow.
but dispite that the gundam series is just a compilation of random events that just happen one after another and i didnt really like it at all
however i would recommand peeps to watch mobiile suit gundam 8th ms team. this one was done rather differently from the others and MUCH MUCH better.
i only watch gundam series for their cool flying robot designs, story-wise...meh _________________
We have a music video of the 8th MS team in the direct downloads section called Shellshock. Its quite well done and from what I can see the 8th MS team looks awesome... better than any other gundam... including seed. _________________
08th MS Team is good, but not that great... Great OVA-budget animation (sporting character designs by the guy who did Cowboy Bebop), and a easy to follow story, but other than that its characters are nowhere nearly as complex and original as the Tomino-directed ones, nor is the story nearly as epic. It's like your typical anime for the average fan, unlike the other UC Gundam, which are full of drama, complex characterization, philosophical themes, epic storytelling and a whole lot of nice twists and irony... Tomino's Gundam aren't easy to understand but they are definitely classics, something that 08th MS Team isn't. Plus its not like 08th MS's animation are the best in Gundam either... If anything 0083 Stardust Memory feature much better action sequences and designs that really take advantage of the animation budget.
If I have to recommend an OVA though its definitely 0080: War in the Pocket, which is a touching story about a brat who gets affected and changed by befriending those involved in a war.
And don't believe the bit about AUs "ripping off" of UC... Since they are all part of the same Gundam franchise, it's pretty idiotic to call this "ripping off". The AUs like Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed provide an alternate interpretation by different creators of the same war theme. So while on paper they might deal with the same thing, the execution is 100% different.

From what I have seen the only place to find out what Gundam actually means or even has a meaning is in either the Gundam Wing series or the Gundam Seed versions.
In the Gundam Wing OVA the Gundams are called Gundams because of what their made out of. Gundanium Alloy or however it is spelled... If you have seen the first few episodes it mentions something of the gundam operation, (my memory is drawing a blank on this...) it's name has something to do with it too I believe.
If you go by the Gundam Seed definition of it then you will find that Gundam stands for Generation Unrestricted Network Drive Assault Module. But there are two versions of Gundam in the Seed series. The Freedom Gundam uses a very similar name but the only difference is the 'N' instead of Network it stands for Nuclear meaning its a nuclear powered gundam. I believe those are the meanings of Gundam if there are others or edits about these just post them I guess.
Wow, I love gundam before, now I love it even more. It's true though that I watch gundam mainly because of its cool robot design, it's so futuristic and you just gotta love it man
