you also have to remember that even though there are shoujo manga's or romance mangas, these also have fan service sometimes. Take for example Girls Bravo and Ichigo100%, it has fanservice. It's a romance story yes, but it is also made for guys. This is mainly because these titles are written by men. You can also take Ai Yori Aoshi, , Fushigi Yugi, KamiKaze no Kaito Jeanne, etc which are written by women and place them in a group that provides fanservice.
Remember that there is also implied situations too. Well you can take Clamps work for example. Umm while I haven't read RG Veda or X, I know that Chobits and Card Captor Sakura have implied situations. Chobits is kinda ecchi, and CCS well, look on how Rika and her Elementary School Teacher are in love and how Tomoyo is in love with her cousin Sakura. While this doesn't exactly say so in the manga, there are strong implications to this.
What I'm trying ot get at is that perhaps that manga is seen by some as something that exists in a Patriarical society.

holee crap u cannot b serious, seriously i was the last guy to know a single thing about manga's also my cousin (girl) told about manga's to her bro and my sis first. i was the last guy to kno!! now im hooked like a fish.....yea..... also some girls manga is like shojo beat. it has mostly romance like Nana, Crimson Hero, and some others also it has creepy ones like Godchild.. *shudder...
... this is news to me, only girls read manga in my school for the most part, I'm the odd ball. There is various of popular romances/stuff out there, if you ever get bored w/ the crazy world of manga, try fantasy/romance books if u want, but i think girls will be dominating alot of manga territory soon.

why girls read less than boys is a good question so i am trying to answer u in the best way.
1. Ecchi mangas and other stuff is one reason its the best way for a perverted guy because if your parents or some1 else checks your computer to see all preivously visited sites it wont say hentai or porn or stuff like that so you can read it with a low chance of gettin caught.
2. Because guys that aren't pervertes like me like mangas because of the fighting parts in naruto or Death Note and One Peice and other stuff
3. And lastly if you just look at a girl(s) you can see barely any of them just readin manga they will usually just like talk with guys or chew gum or just talk about all the latest clothes or styles n stuff

That made no sense whatsoever.
Are you talking about reading ecchi manga on computer? There are lot of sick stuff out there, I'd say regular porn is much better than being found out that you read stuff you find on those manga.
Also, lot of girls like porn, porn isn't just for guys.
Also, I find it hard to belive that you still have problems with leaving website evidences. Just clear the history and cache. Or just use better browsers like Firefox and use one button solution like "clear private information". _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]

PS. this is from Cali in America so yea
So does this mean that you're basing this on what you see in Cali? Because I have to say that I disagree that all girls do is chew gum and talk about fashion. And talk to guys? That's normal. Do you only expect girls to talk to other girls?
Anywho...also, for your second point. It makes it sound like the manga industry in general is trying to direct their manga towards the male population. That isn't true really. There are plenty of Shoujo manga out there that girls can enjoy, like many people have pointed out before. Besides, I know plenty of girls who read Death Note, Naruto, and I personally enjoy reading One Piece manga and I know other females that do as well. The best thing about manga is that it contains so many different elements in it so that pretty much anybody can find something to read that will interest them...

Well most manga writers write for the most popular groups. They think that they are guys. I see more guys reading manga than girls but I really don't see that many people reading manga on a regular basis. If you were to totally erase your history wouldn't that somebody if any body notice that you had barley any history and make a inquire about that? I would guess that Ricto was stereotyping girls from cali or just girls. I personally just hear girls gossiping, talking a bout books, guys, what's on TV, and a lot of hot guys on TV. But that's just my experience. Girls talk about other things. Just some of us may not see or notice when that happens. Guys think that Ecchi stuff is just mainly for guys. Most guys don't think that girls to ecchi stuff and thoughts. They think it's more a guy thing and guys are usually portrayed ass that sort. Guys usually don't hear a girl talking about that stuff which doesn't mean it doesn’t get talked about. Girls I would think wouldn't usually say I'm into ecchi stuff, would they? Well on a closing note I think that Death note is intended for boys just some girls like it any ways. Not all manga even if intended for a certain crowd or groups can appeal to all.

It is true that there are a lot of shounen manga out there. But there are plenty of shoujo manga as well. It's just as popular from what I can see. I read a mix of shounen and shoujo manga and most of my female friends do as well. As for the erasing of your history...I don't think people would really question you on that matter...
About the whole girls part...maybe since I'm a girl my whole perspective of what girls talk about is different from yours. You may consider our talk gossip (and by the way I'm hoping you don't think discussing books as gossip..because it really isn't...) but I don't see it that way. And for that matter...I can say the same thing with guys. All I see them do is "gossip" too. As for the girls discussing ecchi things...umm....I have heard plenty of that talk before. Ever heard girls screaming over bishounen in manga and anime? I've seriously heard talk from plenty of girls over those matters in a really perverted manner. Also, don't tell me you don't know about the type of fanart some girls create. Unfortunately...I've seen some of them, and they were pretty ecchi....
So really, the whole girls aren't as perverted thing is not really true. Another example, ever heard a female girl comment on a movie starring a "hot" guy in it and they would say something like "Omg, he took off his shirt. Look at those muscles,etc."....I've seen plenty of girls do that in public...and that is pretty similar to a guys resonse towards certain females in movies. The behaviour in girls can be quite similar to that of a guys. They can be just as perverted as any guy...depends on whether or not you notice it happening around you....
Also, I think that Death Note was directed towards the male population as well. I was just trying to say that even so, like you said, some females like to read it as well. Like I said earlier, manga contains many different elements in which practically anybody can find at least one manga series that they will enjoy. Girls can read shounen manga because maybe one particular storyline interests them. That's the same for guys too. I know males who read shoujo manga. Even though they are given the titles "shounen" and "shoujo" they are read by both genders. That's what I was trying to say earlier. There is something for pretty much everybody. I don't really care what gender the manga is directed towards. As long as it interests me I'll read it and I'm sure that there are others that think that way as well...

About Death Note, it is serialized on Shounen Jump magazine... so I would think boys tend to read it more.
However, Death Note was written by a female author, and drawn by male mangaka. So I don't think Death Note would have any preference to single gender for its popularity. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]
well yea i'm saying bout what i see based in Cali also if you think about it most guys would like to look at things like girls against their will n stuff not just two people who just wanna u no and you get a 1 way ticket to jail and well you do get into jail if you do that in real life but just for watching fake stuff you cant get sent into jail. Um at Cali well i only saw one girl to 3 who reads manga in my years form 1rst to high school. most girls are uasually more conserned about their body and if the guy they like have a crush on them so none of them really waste their time on stuff like this (i'm not calling this a waste of time just saying what i think if you ask them do you like mangas or stuff like that).
Alright if you say that ecchi stuff is also fer girls, to me its kinda well hard to beleive since generally most guys not girls and i know i sound stu*id but i think less girls think about ecchi stuff but i do no girls do somtime think about it (i think i'm not a girl so i dont know and i'm not perverted so i'm just basing what i'm saying from what sounds like people would do). Also i am not perverted or a girl so you try to think better ii'm just trying to tell him what i think ok. if you dont think that what i say is right i dont care its just my opinion.
also i dont like echhi stuff just funny romance novels where the main guy keeps actidentilly does somethin echhi in front of the person they like. just like in love hina man i almost laughed till i died
Also i am not perverted or a girl so you try to think better ii'm just trying to tell him what i think ok. if you dont think that what i say is right i dont care its just my opinion.
Okay...are you directing this towards me? If so...I would like to point out that I'm not perverted. That's an assumption that you made based on absolutely nothing. Also, I never said that my way of thinking was better in any way. If you had read my post earlier I said that because I'm a girl I may view things from a different perspective. That in no way states that I think my way of thinking is better then anybody elses.
Also, I respect your opinion. Did I ever say that I didn't? I'm sorry if my post made it feel like I didn't. The statements I made were also based on my opinion and also from the statements people have made beforehand. It was also based from what I saw in my own experiences. If people point out that I'm wrong then so be it. Those were just my own thoughts and I in no way think that I'm correct about everything I say. So are you trying to say that just because I disagreed with you that my opinions don't matter? This is a discussion, and if you post in here then you have to expect that some people will disagree with your viewpoints at times. I am sorry if I upset you though. I truly did not mean to. Those last lines though were like a personal attack on me, and I found it to be completely unnecessary.

I don't think talking about books is gossip just that's is what I usually hear the girls talking about in my class. I do know that some girls are just as perverted as guys can be just they aren't stereotyped as that. I know girls talk about a wide range of things that's just what I may not have heard. Yes I do know that guys gossip just girls are made out that way as guys are made out as perverts. But that changes from boy to boy or girls to girls. I don't know all about girls and what they talk about for that matter I don't know al to about girls for I a boy. But that doesn’t mean that I a total idiot on the subject. Lots of mangas can appeal to girls and guys. It all depends on your interest. I read some mangas that were intended for girls like Suzuka, Hana kimi, and a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head at the moment. Most are assumptions and they are mostly from my observations at school.

I never said that you were an idiot....and if my post made you feel that I was saying that then I'm sorry. I guess I wrote it out in a way that made you feel as if I was insulting you? If so, I really am sorry. That wasn't my intention in what I wrote. I was just writing out my own thoughts and experiences on the subject.
And on your last point. I agree with you that it all depends on your interest when reading manga.

I agree that Death Note is probably mainly read by boys.
I didn't know that it was written by a female author though, lol. So I guess I shouldn't have used Death Note as an example then...hmm...

Simple. There are more action mangas in the world than shojo mangas. That is a fact. About 1.5 times more.
So what?
Women and girls also like action manga.
