|
|
| I am planning to build a mini itx form computer. I am wondering if the EPIA 800 will be powerful enough to run the video applications with appropriate codecs. How is anime generally encoded these days? It's not like DivX3/xvid avi is it? I'd appreciate some feedback from those that have worked with mini itx systems. Thanks in advanced for your responses. |

Yes, it's powerful enough to run video applications.
DivX is practically phased out. Majority is Xvid, but h.264 is becoming more mainstream. Your upcoming system will be able to handle all of those three. |

| So in terms of decoding Xvid, and h.264 are easier than DivX to run? On the review I read here (http://www.mini-itx.com/reviews/nehemiah/default.asp?page=12#s25), it indicated that the 800 seemed to have some problems with certain formats. I just want to be sure before ordering it. I'm not really wanting to fork over an additional 60usd for the epia 10000 if I don't have to. Thanks again for the feedback. |

Sorry, I didn't look into it well enough. I googled EPIA 800 and ended up looking at a motherboard ^_^; Wow, good thing you did your research or else I would have felt even more guilty T_T. It looks like this CPU is meant for OEM businesses and showing information videos in the markets. Sadly, it isn't enough to be your video center.
Also, h.264 are much harder to decode compared to Xvid and Divx. Decoding codecs for h.264 have improved and still improving, however. Xvid is sometimes easier to decode than Divx, sometimes it's the other way around. It just depends on how it's encoded. Also, encoding and decoding are two completely different words ^_^; |

| No worries, just looking for some feedback. The information you've provided is very useful. I don't plan on encoding anything at all on this pc, it's more of a novelty item as I'm cramming all of this hardware into an xbox or ps2 case. Either way I've decided to go with more powerful system specs so I shouldn't have any problems. Thanks again for the feedback. |
