wow, my head is spinning from all the bio-talk going on around here. haha, thanks sayoku for trying to get this wild bunch in line
Anyway, like I've said before, and others have said... a name is a name. It's not like it's origin is going to affect the child, nor are people going to judge or be biased against others because their name doesn't match their heritage. Ken is a name I've seen mentioned here plenty of times. I never even realized it was an "asian" name until just a few years ago. I mean, even my dad's name is Ken, so technically, he has an asian name.
I think a lot of baby-name books are including more and more "ethnic" names now too. A lot of Indian names and African names are appearing. Which is another thing... I see a lot of non-whites, non-europeans with european names. I don't think "Walter" or "Julie" are traditional African or even Carribbean names, yet I have black friends named so. The street travels both ways, so to me, I don't see a big deal in giving my irish-italian-french-english-native american child a japanese name. _________________

I wouldn't mind giving my kid a Japanese name. Though he/she will probably be bullied for having a long name, since I was planning to give my children English, Japanese, Chinese, and Thai names.
Of course, my kids will also be taught martial arts so other children may think twice about bullying them. |

| some japanese names would be too hard for americans to pronounce but there are some cool ones like Sai, it could be a boy or a girls name as far as I'm concerned, but I probably wouldn't do it because I'm not japanese. |

Well, I know now why my family moved here in Burnaby for 10 weeks.
I met my real parents, not knowing the one lived with for the past 13 year of my life were them.
My real dad is Japanese, and my real mum is Russian
My real name : Kaoru Yegor Kiriyama...
Maybe that's why people always think I'm half Japanese......
And the only real thing is that I was born in Heidelberg, Germany. _________________ Life is full of truth, but I'd rather live in lies. I know if I live in lies, everything arent for real, but if you say you love me, is it something I could feel? |

There should be a law making it possible for kids to change their name as soon as they realize their parents stuck them with something lame. Of course there is no garentee that they will choose a non-lame name
I used to know a young couple that named their son Sabastian after the main character in Neverending Story and they kept calling him Bartian for short. Really these folks were young enough to know what kind of hell their kid was in for. I advised them they should at least consider calling him Sabat for short. Sounds tougher and cooler and at least the wimpy kids shouldn't feel a need to make his life hell. |

Is it Sabastian or Sebastian? Sebastian shouldn't have any problems, since it's a fairly common name. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

if that happens, the Hollywood Calif branch would need to be open 24/7/365
