Why I created this thread is simply purely on curiosity. I actually created this thread when there is one event in my office that makes me wonder whether technology has increased efficiency or laziness of people.

It actually started with a simple phonecall from one of the user in my office. This user actually seated 5 meters away from me. Imagine my surprise when I saw that he called me using his phone instead of just calling me through. I thought that maybe he called the wrong extension number, so I just goes there to clarify with him. Imagine my shock when he actually really need some IT help!!!

So what are your opinions regarding technologies?! Is it becoming so bad that even a simple things need to be done by technology?! Is it really a necessity to do that?!

Well, want to hear some opinions from all who are interested in this issue =)

Well....using a phone to call you when you'r just next door....that pure and utter lazyness....

But I will agree that as technology advances.....ppl are going to use a lot less energy (theirs, not fuel or anything) to dp things.....and then, being able to do simple evryday things will become hard, such as maybe cooking, vacumming, cleaning dishes, etc.

But it can be for efficiancy, especialy in the work place....think about it.....we'de be having a lot less anime/cartoons comming out every month if computors havnt become so advanced.....

all in all....its a bit of both......but dont forget....most ppl nowadays live by the motto "Use and abuse"....

I have to agree with Bowser in that it's a little bit of both. It all depends on how people decide to use the technology. But really, calling somebody up who is only five metres away from you is a little...well, lazy.

It's like when a person is in a building and planning to go from the first floor to the second. Instead of taking the stairs, they wait for the elevator. I mean, some people would say it is faster, but you could actually probably get up the second floor faster by using the stairs rather then waiting for the elevator...

Or when...let's say somebody is planning to go to a friends house that is like down the street from them. Instead of walking the five minute walk, they get in a car and drive for all of ten seconds down there. What the heck is the point of that?

I'm not trying to say that technology is bad, but it's more like how people decide to use it that makes it bad. Like Bowser said..."use and abuse"

The new Hybrids are an example of efficiency, for it benefits not having to pollute.

However, like Mehanai mentioned, the car itself can be used for laziness if you only use it to go just down the street. That's what the lazy people do.

My answer is the same as Mehanai and Bowser.

You guys all have a point here , we're getting lazy lol.
Technology is only gonna get better and better , and we're just gonna get even more lazy. But its not just technology's fault thought , we want to do things the easiest/fastest/simple and most importantly less time consuming way possible. So us people got that bad habit too >.< Like bowser said " use and abuse "

We'll adapt to lazyness in time.
In my view of future, cell phones will be replaced with small multipurpose device for all communication and information related tasks. Web browsing, phone calls, digital photography, video recording, gaming, movie viewing will all be done on one small device with some kind of expandible projectile screen. It'll be the most useful personal gadget you'll ever have. I'm thinking within 10 years, it'll be possible. Within 20 years, everyone will carry one. I just hope it won't be called PSP or "i" something.
Oh sweet sweet technology... how would we ever survive without you.

Well I think its a mix of both in a way since technology was created by people who are probably working really hard while other people benefit from those finds and become more lazy. Although technology for the people will normally be made in order for them to live more relaxing lives. In the end though yes we will become more lazy, but the people who are finiding these things will work hard so mix of both.

advancing technology and laziness go hand in hand. the purpose of technology is to make less work for people. technology is a cause for laziness. there are always pro's and con's for everything and technology is no exception.

As technology advances, people have to do less the work they did before so it cause them to have extra time in their hands. It's up to them how they manage they their time.

You guys are so simple minded. Technology doesn't give us free time... It's the opposite.

Ok I'll explain why:
Before lightbulbs and candles, we humans went to bed when it got dark.
Now, it doesn't matter if it's night because we can use artificial lights to work on whatever we need to do.

Before the advent of cell phones, business men and working people could enjoy time off work. Now, they are concerned with work everywhere 24/7. They won't have the excuse of "I wasn't home to take the phone call".

Let's say before the calculators and mathmetical computing, people had to spend more time manually calculating lot of numbers. Now do mathmeticians have more time on their hands because they can use the computers to calculate? No, they just work on other things.

Technology doesn't give us extra time on our hands. It is quite the opposite. Because we adapt to the convinience, thus we keep pushing our selves with efficiency. Tech isn't there to make us lazier, it's there to increase human efficiency.

However there is the flipside of the coin because a lot of people now have the ability to spend more time doing things they want to because there is someone else doing the work of three or four people.

However you are correct, a lot of people are going to be working more. BUT that is a career choice. Humans are greedy, and because of that they desire more materialistic things/easier lifestyles, and to obtain them, they need more money, and how do they get more money? They work more.

And in the old days a lot of people spent just as much time doing things, they just did less things. There really has been very little change in the amount of time we use to accomplish goals and such.

Anyways I am looking forward to the advancement of the technologies we are using. One day we may even develop nanotechnology. When that happens, society could progress to a state similar to a utopia, since the nanomachines will probably be able to telepathically link humans minds together, similar to an internet. When that occurs, information will be able travel between humans at instance, and the expertise of any individual will be able to solve the problems of another individual.

This is all hypothetical of course but I do believe it would be something interesting to consider.
