i don't know much about anime but i need help! there was a film that i used to watch as a child that i have been trying to identify for about, oh ten years now. we had taped this film in the 80's and here's what i remember about it. in the beginning there was this boy (though it could have been some sort of non-human entity, maybe) and there was a thunderstorm that struck his house. he huddled in a corner trying to convince himself that he wasn't afraid. at some point he starts walking...he finds this huge cave/pit that is filled with chinese terracotta soldiers (you know, the 8th wonder of the world thingy). i remember something about him reaching the end of the earth. i know its vague, but that's all i've got! if anyone can help me identify the film, i would probably die from satisfaction.

Funny... it somehow rings a bell... but I can't locate it either....
Don't you remember something else? Like any other characters?

I can recommend you to look at old famous anime production studios such as Nippon animation or Tatsunoko productions.
I just looked at their work lists and wow... I found so many nostalgic anime series I watched when I was little. Good stuff.

BTW I even found the title of a series I tried to remember but couldn't. Not being able to remember the title was driving me crazy, now I found it. It's partially thanks to you Desimone. Wink
The one I found from my childhood was: Paul's Miraclous Adventures (Poru no Mirakuru Daisakusen) from 1976. Yay! I finally found out its name!

Faebinder > Yeah, I did miss some major biggies in the industry.

Toei animation and Mushi Production. Mushi hasn't done many great series lately, but it's one of the oldest, and was founded by Osamu Tezuka.

But, Toei is seriously THE animation studio when it comes to mainstream popularity, other than Bandai.

EDIT:
Yeah, I found lot of my childhood anime I watched.
There were so many dorky anime I used to watch haha. Golden Warrior Gold Lightan: anime about transforming golden cigarette lighter... seemingly normal cigarette lighter transforms into giant golden robot. Laughing
Hurricane Polymer: Looks like a solo superhero dressed like Gachaman character. It wasn't great, but I remember this because I had a VHS video copy of it at home.[/url]

They're not from 80s? Well, they're not from 70s or 90s either, so when do you figure they were made?

Don't you hate it when you can't remember a particular cartoon you had watched when you were but a young'un?

I recently rediscovered Saint Seiyan. I had nooo idea what it was called back in the early 90's when i first watched it, but I remembered the weird references to Greek mythology and the wacky armour and weapons. I was a little disappointed when i watched it again coz the animation was soooo old school and not really to my taste Smile

desimone: do you remember what sort of character designs were used? Each studio tends to have a very distinct way of designing chars. Also was this anime dubbed in english or another language?

it was definitely in english. it was taped from tv in the US. it was really, really simply animated, nothing like today's anime. i think i remember the boy having black hair and a face that consisted of 2 circles for eyes and a rectangle for a mouth. kind of like a south park character, actually. i will check out those sites and see if i find anything that sparks my memory. i am beginning to think that i made the whole thing up....

Hey anyone else saw the 1975 anime series "Adventures of Gamba"?
It's one of my favorite from my childhood. It was so good that I actually want to find it and watch it again. It'll be tough to find it now days though...
It's awsome anime about group of mice journeying across sea to save an island mice from slaughter by evil weasels.
