Well, I dont think otakus are well recieved in any culture. Japanese themselves have many negative stereotypes about otaku even worse than here.
Basically, otaku:
-are stinky because they are too busy watching anime and playing games to wash themselves
I manage to take a bath at least once a month whether I need to or not, j/k, my paying gig does put me in close contact with the public wearing a company uniform so sloppy/slovenly appearance is frowned on. I shower and shave every day.
Quote:
-have no social life
Do these forums count as a social life? Okay there may be something here but I believe it has more to do with working 6 nights a week.
Quote:
-don't have girlfriends
Hmmmm I'n narried but I do think of my wife as my best friend and technically she could be called a girl so I guess she could be my girlfriend,
okay got me on this one, being a faithful husband type I have no girlfriend.
Quote:
-never exercise
Other then martial arts I'm also a bicycle nut and actually commute ten miles each way to work on my bike. I do believe that is exercise.
Quote:
-dress like dorks
Uniforms, jeans, t-shirts, rugby shirts, Okay I'll cop to this one. I really don't care a whole lot about how I dress as long as I'm color coordinated.
Quote:
-are always cynical
Beong from Texas I like to think of it as having a highly refined sense of B.S., that's why I never ever voted for "Dubil Yuh". That sounds kinda cynical doesn't it?
Quote:
-are perverts
and probably many other stereotypes
Like being lolicons? Actually I have found that while young women may be nice to look at most women that can't tell you where they were when JFK was assainated are pretty boring to talk to, okay that's not quite true, When man first landed on the moon, yeah that's better.

But some positive stereotypes:
-good with computers and gadgets
-draw well
Okay so what if I run a 100% Linux box, use The Gimp a lot and draw freehand.

Tex > haha you don't have to try to fit into those stereotypes. As I said, they are stereotypes, and stereotypes don't equal facts. Also those were Japanese otaku stereotypes, so they would be very different to any other gaijin otaku out there. I hope you don't start following those standards set by Japanese otaku. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]

Have you seen the news stories about the "Maid Cafe's" in Japan that are designed to attract Otakus? Supposedly even "normal" people are going to these cafe's dressed as otaku (otaku cos play?). Here's a link from Reuters on it. I one way I kind of fin it disgusting but on another level if I were to go to Japan I would probably go to one just to see what it's like. Good thing I like my coffee black, I don't think I would feel all that comfortable having a woman kneeling in front og me adding cream and sugar to my coffee.

Well, yeah of course I know about maids in Akiba. If you visit Akiba, you are almost 100% likely to see female employees in maid costumes, whether in cafes or doing promos and handing out stuff.
The Japanese men just love women in maid costumes, so having employees in maid costumes sells products... and constant exposure to anime and Japanese stuff has made me have similar taste.
I confess: I like school swimsuit, school gym shorts, maid uniforms, and gothloli... basically most stuff that Japanese otaku would feel "moe" about. Oh god, what have they made me into?! _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]

-im not very socialble
-i dont have a boyfriend....girl friend on the other side....lol
-excercise...not often, but i walk around a lot
-i dont dress stunning, (dont dress like a bitch i mean) but i have my own sense of fashion
-im a perv? thats for the guys to judge lol
-im misanthropic
-im alright with gadgets
-im a better than average drawer
does that make me an otaku? are you all gonna hate me now? lol _________________ "Look at me, with my pretty bracelet and tiara... I'm a fuckin' princess!"

Not ALL geeks are assholes, although I could see why some have the right to be. Geeks take all the crap from the "normal" people which in turn may make them into assholes, but of course these are the exceptions not the rules. Geeks also tend to take anything related to their "geekhood" very personally and seriously, which also may result in being called an as hole...
Thats assuming you were serious in you your statement Tevesh. If you werent then disregard what I said. _________________ Miku Miku!!
