So I figure it should be around the time for midterms and finals for a lot of students who are in school still, so I'm curious as to what kind of habits people fall into as a result of stress or anxiety. I realize that I start eating a lot more so that I don't have to study because, well I figure I can't study while I'm eating. I believe this is just a sign of Procrastination, but if there are any psychology majors out there, what causes procrastination and is my symptom healthy? Wink hahaha... i hope i don't need a therapist, jk. sorry if i offended any psychology people, but I don't believe behavior is so easily predicted, but I am amazed at how many patterns people do go through.

**yay, I finally have 50 posts**

Hmm....I'm not a psychology major but you said you were curious about the habits people fall under due to stress and anxiety....so here is mine. Before exam times, the first thing that I always do is a massive cleaning of my room. I seriously make sure that every inch of my room is perfectly clean. I always used to think that I did that as an excuse to put off studying (since I hardly ever clean my room...) but apparently it wasn't.

I don't remember what class it was...I think it was a social science course. Anywho, I found out that apparently some people work better in organized environments. I found this to be true for me since I tend to concentrate more if my room is in a more orderly state. So the whole cleaning my room thing was just me setting up an environment which would allow me to be more productive and I find that I don't stress out as much. My room becomes my little safe haven away from the chaos in the world to allow me to focus on my studies. So, even if some people may see my little exam preparation ritual as odd, it works perfectly for me so I don't really care. Razz

Oh... I thought this post was about therapy. I've gone though a few therapy about random odds and ends, if it is free or near free, I highly recommend going to a therapist. Screw High School guidance councilors, they'll make you feel uncomfortable because you seem them regularly. It's like confession without the guilt, and you manage to work out problems in your life.

Throughoutly productive.

Yea...the title said that it was about therapy and that's what I thought too...but then I read this part....

So I decided to post my habit down to show that everybody has their own little rituals to get them prepared for their exams. I guess I should have said that in my earlier post. So yea, SSS...I don't see anything wrong with your behaviour that would require you getting therapy. Unless you start eating an unhealthy amount of food or something.....

Generally I don't even get stressed out over school work, I just make a choice and stick with it. I'm done almost all of my midterms and I've gotten through them by studying for 3-5 hours the day of the exam. Grades aren't spectacular, but I'm passing, and never wasted time fake studying (you all know you do it). Now back to writing my paper thats due in 4 hours. Twisted Evil

I was majoring in psychology, but in likely hood now Im going to be an english teacher. However judging by my lackluster performance in all my english classes and all the crap I have to do..... meh I dont know. It could be my current depression talking though. Or maybe Im just crazy.... Yeah off subject right there...

The best way I could describe procrastination would be that you have something that you dont want to do, so you mentally and physically try to find any reason not to do it, no matter how small it is. Your mind can easily justify any procrastination, like if you choose to play video games instead of doing your homework, you can say to yourself "Im just going to play for 15 minutes" and when the time is up, you say to yourself, "Well maybe just a little more. I still have some time left." This is your mental justification of the procrastination talking. For me, I should be doing homework right now but instead I am here, posting. I tell myself that i will do it, but in likely hood I will convince that I dont have too, even though I know better.

Its simply your mind making excuses so that the Id part of yourself can indulge itself, if we are looking at a Freud perspective. As far as being healthy it definitely isnt. The more you do it the more it takes to get you motivated. Pretty soon you wont be doing anything at all no matter what the consequences are. Like me.... dont end up like me folks.

I usually dont make any excuses. I know Im just procrastinating, so I just do it. I dont really get all hyped up over tests and stuff. I wish I did though, instead of the apathetic way I see them now.

Good job on those 50 posts there Three Speed. Smile

Oh, procrastination FTW!!!

I also procrastinate a lot lately. This is arguably the hardest semester ever for my college career, and yet I always find some sort of excuse not to do work. I'm pretty sure that it is because I'm unmotivated that I loaf around so much instead of getting my work done. I think that motivation is really one of the main issues regarding procrastiantion. If you really have a goal, then you get your stuff done and go for it. If you don't you just get sidetracked with pretty much anything (like I do), since work has only formal reasons to be much of a priority.

At least I make it up by actually doing my work in the last possible moment (as opposed to never doing it). It turns out that I work pretty well under pressure, although it is really stressful. The problem is that people eventually crack, so I really don't want to reach that breaking point when everything just ovewhelms me. Ok, time to get some perspective, I suppose. Too bad "perspective" could well be several countries away right now.... Just two and a half more months... I can do this! I hope...

And True, you're not crazy and I'm pretty sure you'll be OK. I know that you're a smart girl and you'll be just fine. Wink

I do exactly the same thing....doing it now!
I'm not studying or anything.....and you know....I dont seem to care...

Dont get me wrong...I'm worried about exams....but not in the way that would make me panic......and that a bad thing......I realy need to get worried about this....insted of making up excuses of not doing my work....

True>> All I can say is: Sin of Appathy....

The sin of lazyness and unhappyness and depression....sadly many ppl suffer from this perticular sin......especialy students.....when they have to think about the future and grades and stuff....

ps: when I say sin...I dont realy mean it in the religious sence...rather as a emotional or psychological state of mind....

One of mine is a doctor! You can borrow him!

Sometimes people don't do the stuff they have to do because they KNOW they can do it. "I know I can write one paper in one day, so I can afford to waste the next ten minutes doing this or that". Maybe we are not worried because we're confident we can do this stuff if we just put a little more effort into it. Now actually putting the effort is something else... Well, at least being capable is part of the solution too.

lol... thanks, I was just proud cuz I've been really slow about posting and stuff, I tend to read comments more than I write them. But anywho, I guess I named this a little decieving seeing as how it's not really therapy, but I was actually hoping that it was a medical condition and that my Id would be satisfied as well as my concience. hahaha... and off topic, I'm just curious about what FTW means (leoxjm). I'm not good with online jargon... haven't really been online in a while. But I do like how leoxjm puts it, part of procrastination is confidence in your own ability, that's assuming you have the ability to finish it and do a good job. Rolling Eyes lol
