| The english seems very forced in this anime. They're trying too hard to replicate the american accent. |

Well... yesterday I couldn't hold out so I decided to take a 'little peek' at the manga... and ended up reading all volumes. It's nothing short of amazing, I got hooked instantly and couldn't take my eyes off of it for hours and hours. I haven't had so much fun since I got my hands on the GTO manga.
Now I'm even more eager to see what music we'll get in the tv show and how the storyline will be adapted. If it doesn't get messed up (and I don't think it would seeing how it's going so far) it's bound to be one of the best anime shows of all time.
About the English in the show - I think that some minor characters really sound horrible but Maho's and Ryuske's English is just the way it should be. Anyway, the voice work in this show is much much better than the usual drivel we get in most other anime so I'm pretty happy with it.
p.s. Maho rules so much |

Actually he is supposed to suck at it The way he sings in English is just how it is in the manga.
Btw I'm curious how long this show's going to be and what its creators will do when they run out of manga... I'd say that the currently released 19 volumes need at least 50 episodes. |

Heh, just went out an hour ago and bought the 2 first volume. The scene where they sing though it's just drawn notes makes me smile. :]
Excluding the no-music thing, it's still pretty good. By the end of book 2 is prolly the fith/sixth episode.
howly shite, manga-screener did them all. Why didn't I check this sonner ;__; _________________ "A lullaby to close our eyes, goodbye." |

I just saw the raws of episodes 4 and 5 and I'm quite disappointed.
First of all in ep 4 they've totally censored Saitou-san's place. Instead of his inflatable sex-toy Wakiko (if I remember her name correctly) we get a purple striped cat. There go some of the most hilarious moments in the manga. Anyway, that I could live with, but it seems that they've also had to use fake names for real-life bands. Instead of the Beatles we get "Rocket Boys" (?!) and some lame-ass Beatles-like Engrish song. Considering how central real-life bands' songs are to Beck this will ruin a lot of the anime's appeal.
Other stuff that went wrong in the episode was the English conversation in the beginning, it sounded worse than anything so far. Also Saitou-san's croaky voice is really getting on my nerves, it's nothing like what I'd want it to be.
All that put aside the episode was watchable but it could have been so much better.
Things don't go too well in the next episode either. They are systematically excluding or ruining most humour from the manga and that kills so much of what makes Beck great.
Also the singing scene in the pool sucked. It wasn't paced well (it was overextended and Koyuki started singing way too long after he jumped in) and they kept showing the same 2-3 backgrounds on loop for several minutes, only to switch to Koyuki and Maho's bland expressionless faces with three frames to show their mouths moving. At least it turned out ok musically.
As much as I was excited about Beck at first, all these pitfalls really cool down my enthusiasm. I hope that at least we'll get some nice Mongolian Chop Squad songs later on. |

First off- yes engrish and cencership suck. No doubt about it.
That being said, Mahou and Koyuki's voices blend increadibly well together. The songs in episode 5, while being engrish, are well sung. Full Moon Sway is musically beautiful (and fun to play- will post chords for any interested). As for the repeated background shots, I think that was intentional, to draw your focus to the music and set the scene. A similer effect is commonaly used in manga, where four or five panals will show nothing but background.
I read the manga a year ago, and now watching the anime my emotional reactions are exactly the same. The feel of manga is there, and if they changed some specifics, for whatever reason, I'm ok with that. The blowup dolls jokes were not that important. The smashed guitar was. The pool scene was.
Anyway, I am very pleased with the series so far. You can always nit pick details, but other series have been handled far worse than this.

I've read the manga a few months back and just got back in to watching the anime BECK, though I'm still on episode3...The opening is really great imo. ^^b |

This anime is great and is becoming one of my favorite animes really fast.
As for the band names, i really dont mind that they changed them, and it was a little dissapointing that the blowup doll wasnt there, those are only minor changes.
Chiba is freaking hilarious, at least to me, almost every time hes on the screen i can't stop laughing, especially when he started picking his nose and then examining his findings while making weird looking faces
the overused backgrounds were there to set the mood for the song, though i wished they showed more of Maho in the pool
this anime is great _________________ [img:387:120:36cb7a5440]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/idjota/BL.jpg[/img:36cb7a5440] |

just wondering but is the manga complete because i think i have up to vol 19 for the manga. I think this may be a long series because i believe ep 5 which just came out is only on vol 2 but who said long series were bad right. |
