for those of you that use adaware... do NOT do the scan-on-reboot option when adaware can't delete files. I did it and it became a hell hole for me. Apparently, when you do that, it changes the directory of your userinit.exe, which loads your user settings when you login your computer. That means you can't get onto your computer.

The only way I managed to solve this was that there was a thread with this happening, and dorkfish posted up a way to solve the problem.

Takes at least an hour to get everything done.

So uh, just don't do it.

the solution only worked for a few days for me before I got more errors, so I just installed a second windows and used that... until my 160 gig hd melted (the black plastic actually boiled)

so I just built a new computer

I did that before, and oddly enough nothing happened. At all.

I did it a couple years ago, on a Win2000 machine, so it's doubtful any problems arose from it.

But yeah, if you're not sure how your computer might react then it's probably a safe bet not to do it.

I'm using Ad-aware SE Personal but never face the problem before. Maybe the problem was on older versions, i'm sure that the developers would patch it after so long. Wink

I used adaware trying to get of this stupid adware that keeps popping up on my desktop as desktop items. I.E. Poker, printer ink, Travel, etc. I think its related to Iexplore in the task manager seeing as it dispeares when I endtask it but usually it will just reopen it selves with mulitple copies taking up A LOT OF MEMORY Sad . Does anyone know how to get rid of this problem? I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me.

Adaware has worked all the time for me, from my old 98 machine to this XP machine. I've done that restart thing before and nothing has happened before.

If you want another adware spyware removing program, Spybot is pretty go, its free and you can go get it from www.download.com

I am using Adaware SE Professional, but it seems that HijackThis is much better since you can modify the registry settings manually, but only if you know what to remove... Rolling Eyes
