when you say real robot, I think of Chi Motosuwa from Chobits... cute, sweet, doesn't cause much trouble. But you might mean those silver, boxy-type monotone-voice buckets of bolts... no fun... my real robots much be in the shape of cute blond teenage girls, haha
when you say super robot, I think of Chachamaru from Mahou Sensei Negima, and even though she was cool and powerful, she seemed kinda cold and stoic. And once the tech-geek girls got a hold of her, it was nothing but trouble and disaster. _________________

There aren't really any guidelines here. What qualifies for each? _________________ Are you okay man? Are you alright? You sure? 'Cuz you just went through a wall. |

| I know that i didn`t put any descriptions or restrictions on what kind of mechas can be use to make a choice but basically the main diference is that a super robot is something that doesn`t have sence at all in the real world ie Masinkaiser an unbeatable robot with unlimited energy or cybuster a magic pawered robot, but any wy everyone has his or her opinion |

He is talking about the Robot anime genre.
There are 2 main genres that devides Robot anime.
Real robot, and Super robot.
Super robot genre is the oldest of the two.
Super robot genre would include very old robot anime like MajingaZ and newer ones such as Godannar (which also qualify as gattai robot genre).
The Super robot genre is characterized by having super moves that is pulled off by the pilot while yelling the move's name. These super moves are unexplained on how it works, it's more of a magic than a robot attack.
The Real robot genre started off with Mobile Suit Gundam in early 80s. It was a breakthrough in the cliched robot anime genre. Every little detail shown in the Gundam's appearance (such as the exhaust output in the chest area) showed how realistic it was portraited compared to other existing robot anime. I mean Gundam actually runs out of ammo! how rad is that? _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

| Silverkitsune hit the nail with the definitions to consider in this post, by the way gundams are more exiting when they get out of ammo, and don`t know if you notice but Hero Yui the pilot of the wing gundam has an amazing super robot pilot aura in endless waltz, refering when he became invincible using a freaking don`t kick or i a make a nuclear explotion Leo type mobile suit |

Cybershark > Hero Yui's 733t pilot skills are all reminiscence of the whole "New type" concept from the original Gundam series. It was really the whole classic sci-fi concept about how humanity's next evolution will happen. Very Star Wars-ish indeed. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

Cybershark > Great topic by the way. I just wish we had more knowledgeable fellow otakus in this forum. We hardly ever get real insightful discussions about anime...
Some of the most recognizable Real robots from recent years would be ones from Full Metal Panic series. Their designs were very realistic, comparable to modern military machines.
I'm not really sure where EVA would belong to. First of all, they're not really robots in traditional sense. Being more of giant cyborgs. I think EVA could belong to either of the genre depending on how you look at it. Eva uses mysterious AT fields that renders them invincible against conventional attacks. Kind of like the lambda drive system from FMP now that I think about it...
I don't really want anime creators to stick to these defined genres, they shouldn't be tied down by the definitions. That's how Gundam broke free from the existing anime genre to revolutionize the industry. That's what creators should aim for. Though I do enjoy the nostalgic revivals of Super Robot shows like Goddannar, Aquarion, GunxSword.
Oh and btw if anyone follows the Gunbuster series...
The original Gunbuster was very much a mix of Real Robot and Super Robot genre.
However, Gunbuster 2 seems to be entirely a Super Robot genre.
The pilots of the original Gunbuster did yell out the attack names, but the robots and the world itself was shown to be very realistic at the time.
The new Gunbuster 2 keeps the tradition of special attack yells, but there are so much Super Robot elements and zero Real Robot elements in the series.
I do love both original and the Gunbuster 2 though. Gunbuster 2 is turning out to be an amazing series indeed. I now wait for the episode 6; the series' grand finale. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |

Why do you even ask that? This thread isn't even that long, at least read before post. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img] |
