I would have to say that my first and long time obsession would be 'Haibane Renmei'. The first time I watched it I was totally amazed, with this new and wonderful thing called anime. Then the more that I thought about it, was there even more to it than I was getting?? I mean for a young girl to be told that she had passed, have to accept her new situation, grieve, and carry on within a new structural society, WOW. Surprised
I watched it again and again. In fact this was the very first anime that I purchased in a box set.
And so the more I became obsessed with every little possible meaning - you know the whole 'simile, metaphor and irony' the more I thought I would never move onto my second anime.

Back in the day (like 8th grade) when I wasn't in to anime all that much, I would watch a few episodes of Gundam Wing every now and then on Toonami. Other than that, though, I wasn't exposed at all to anime.

Then one day whilst I shopped about in the mall, I saw Evangelion Death/Rebirth. Now, I hadn't seen any Eva before--I had just heard that it was THE best anime series of all time.

Of course I bought it. I watched it as soon as I got home. You can imagine how ridiculously confused I was, having never seen the series before.

Flash forward a few years, sophomore summero' high school (two years ago, or something similar.) I bought the Eva Platinum Collection off o' Amazon, still never having seen any of it other than Death/Rebirth--which I had watched maybe three times in the years that I had it.

After watching the entire series in one day, I was amazed. Absolutely stunned, I s'pose. The next day, I watched the whole series again with a buddy of mine. Still perplexed at how magnificent the anime was. Week later, had the whole group o' buddies come over to watch the whole series.

'Bout that time, I torrented the End of Eva after hearing of the controversy surrounding the anime ending and the movie ending.

I was, once again, blinded, gagged and paralyzed by how awesome Eva was. The next night, I started a fanfic called Lorelei of the Rhine and got my first chapter out within an hour.

The first few chapters of the story suck, I'll admit. It's still a work in progress, almost a year in the making. I'm getting close to finishing it though.

Anyway. After watching Eva for the first time in one day, I would say that I was rather obsessed with it, as you may have noticed. I was rabid with the thought of writing Lorelei, of getting out another chapter, of putting down my thoughts, my unique story, to the proverbial paper and having other anime fans read it.

I'd say that the obsession has died. Even though I only have, at the most, five chapters left in the fic, I just can't seem to get around to write. I still love the anime, and think it's still one of the best in history; but now it seems that my fervent passion has been extinguished.

Oh, and if anyone wants to read me fanfic, it's on fanfiction.net.
Come on. You know you want to.

Wow. You just managed to sum up into words what I was never able to describe. Thank you for the perfect description of my symptoms!! The only difference was that I loved the anime I obsessed over ^^. Lets see...there was Full Moon, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Peach Girl and most recently, Ouran Host Club...there's more, but it would be too much XD

Wow, I forgot about Haibane Renmei. Yes, that series was also one of those that left a lasting impression on me. Some people say this is a boring series, but this is one of the few series that stimulated my emotions so much that I actually shed tears while watching it; not many things do that to me. The ending of this series was just masterfully pulled off. I'm almost afraid to watch the ending again because I might cry again.

I think I would have to say GTO, well at least at the moment. X suggested this anime, and then it all started, I started to watch the anime, though I had a lot of reservations about an anime on teaching, my opinions quickly changed as I realized that this show was awesome. The show combines tons of comedy and drama and the characters are very detailed. So yes, GTO is my current obssesion and is currently taking up a large majority of my time.

Never really been a obsessed with "anime" versions of the manga I read.

I've always loved ICHIGO 100%.
I've been so obsessed with this series it's crazy.

well..actually..i always end up being obsessed bout the latest anime series i finished watching..
but the one that hav lasted the longest wuz Maria-sama ga miteru.. a.k.a Maria Watches Over Us
yeah..it's sort of a "lesbian" show..but it's not sick..it's just all emotional and that sort..
plus comedy.. XD
i've rewatched the episode bout their valentine many times! especially the part where the older sister(sachiko) confronted her younger sister (like a pet sis thing..not real sisters)cuz she thought her younger sister wuz avoiding her.. it's just so touching.. n i like the sachiko's voice!

@MichelleLiZ
I like Marimite too. But the series was so boring the first time I was watching. I don't know how the series will end, but if it ends with all the roses graduating. Meh, Shimako will still be there when the other two roses graduate. Wink I don't care as long as Shimako remains. I hope they hurry up and release rest of the OVAs.

Though I may love a certain series while still watching, the obsession doesn't really sink in until the series finishes.

Like some others in my first obssesion there was DragonBall. Being the only manga that I could find in book stores and library I just overdid it like I rented the first vol and read it about 20 time in the same day.... I still got some pages printed in my mind even if I've not read/watch any dragon ball for at least 5 years.... And Ive made some web site about every little single detail I had every single caracter names and technique they used writed in a notebook and every error ( only in the first book for the errors ) I was reading every fanfics that I could find online. But this faded out afther Ive found akira and short afther evangelion those two are the things that got me into psychology. It because of Kaneda that I got a bike license now. Ive read those so many time.... I cant even give a estimation, specially for the first two.

Now that I think about it probably even before DragonBall I was first obssesed by an anime ... Sailor Moon... the cute Bic version. Ive even cried when my vhs tape broke because of the surutilisation and I lost all of the first season ... or so. In the anime categorie I guess I got obssesed later on by gundam wing ... I was staying up until 3.30 am to watch it every week days even if I had to go to school 4 hours later... I even remember that one day I watched endless waltz about 6-7 times....

Anyway I am kind of easylly obssesed by something ... so every now and than there is another serie that I rewatch again and again but I find it less intense than when i was a kid... Having watched more series and all I guess ... Others major obsession would have been macross plus ( specially for the music), ninja scroll ... being the most violent thing I had watched back than, Honneamise( just fell in love with the whole universe)
