I have no idea what kind of "obsession" is intended for this thread, but I think Monster is the only one that actually got me thinking.
Almost all the other more serious anime I've seen I found thinking they were unnecessarilly deep. Death Note, Spiral, and anime like Kaiba, Kaiji, Nabari no Ou and all other similar anime I found just MASKED themselves as if they were intelligent, but really weren't.
It's actually pretty funny how in a lot of anime the Japanese try to make it seem like there are deep meanings in everything they do. For example, Prince of Tennis. They make it seem like every movement and skill is completely genius. Or in several other sports anime, they make it seem like every movement and gesture has some sort of deep meaning when in reality people would be moving faster and wouldn't have time to think up 10 minutes of dialogue in their head in 1 minute.
I probably just totally didn't get this thread and just ranted for no reason, but it's 9am and I haven't gotten any sleep so I'm pretty incoherent right now. Well everyone like anime, I started to watch Dragon Ball, Saint Seya, ... when I was still young.
I have become more interested in Anime where lies a nice story with lots of suspicions and / or with lots of comedy, gender bender, fantasy, sci-fi (Code Geass, Maijin Tantei Nougami Neuro, ...).
I'm not sure if I can call myself obssessed since I don't cosplay but I follow from time to time some series animations
(Zero no Tsukaima, Gundam, Slayers, ...).
Sometimes I feel sorry for some Anime stories that are completely different from the manga version
(Mahou Sensei Negima, ...) or stop without telling the whole ending (Guyver, Hunter X Hunter, ...).
ever since gundam wing was on tv a while ago, Sunrise has got me crawling back to a gundam series that comes out every year or so. it kinda depends on what you call an obsession. I mean, I like drawing gundams and stuff, but I dont madly rush to watch every single gundam show in existence...
So, ever since I started to watch anime wich was very recently most of the shows I've watched I've gotten obsessed about, only way to end it aswell is to find another show...
So in the last week I've managed to cover Claymore, Elfen Lied, Shakugan no Shana and my personal all time favourite Fate-Stay Night, and i'm honestly crying over the ending! If I can't find a replacement soon I'm bound to killmyself lol.

try out bonen no xamdou (just finished and a whole lotta fun to get into).
My most recent obsession is catching up with Michiko To Hatchin (same studio that did ergo proxy and samurai champloo so you know it's gotta be good). Other than that I suggest Casshern Sins...

This topic is NOT about your favorite anime.
From my experience as an anime fan, I can remember few series that completely occupied my mind for a certain period of time. These weren't necessarily my favorites, but they completely took over every waking moments of my life. After watching such series, I'd feel empty, obssess even more about it, and try to research everything about it until the obsession faded.
First of such was probably Evangelion. After watching the entire series and the End of Eva movie, I was completely engrossed with Evangelion. The obsession continues even though the initial shock has long faded away.
After the life changing experience of Eva, my obsession was passed onto a new series... Serial Experiments Lain. Mysteries and more mysteries, this abstract anime was so intriguing, I couldn't help but become obsessed with finding more about the series and interpreting the meanings. I was also obsessed with the opening song Duvet.
Most recent obsession comparable to the previous two would be FLCL. From what I've seen on the web, I know I'm not the only one who became total FLCL maniac. I probably watched the series many times over, and didn't feel bored at it. FLCL was different, just so completely different, not even Exel Saga had this feeling. Was it a work of a genius? or just a mindless piece of garbage? I'm not really sure now.
Ever since FLCL, I haven't experienced such obsessions about a single anime; which is probably a good thing since I can judge things in less biased manner than a zealous fanboy. It may mean that I have matured now and see things in a more objective manner.
Fooly cooly is hands down what got me into liking anme as much as i do...it was a rightous anime which was never afraid of going outside of the box and it was a short lived thrill for but only 6 eposides it is truly a master of its time.
Wolf's Rain, though I wasn't thrilled with the manga... _________________ "Why does one death matter against so many? Because there is good and there is evil, and evil must be punished. Even in the face of Armageddon I shall not compromise in this."

Blood and guts everywhere just for it to restart...poor doggy's[/spoiler]
It is really sad, but it has a deep meaning, I had to watch the series twice and the ending several more times to really fully get it. I may be stupid, but that's the way I work. _________________ "Why does one death matter against so many? Because there is good and there is evil, and evil must be punished. I have been addicted to a few anime series, ranging anywhere from Love Hina to Hellsing to Higurashi. The problem is that i become addicted to better and better series, and the lesser series will usually lose my attention quickly. For example: i have watched Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu over 20 times, but the anime i watched afterwards, DearS, i've only watched 3 times. One thing is certain, anime addictions can damage your personal life, making you a introvert for a while.
Gotta say Berserk, Full Metal Alchemist, and Hajime No Ippo are threes series that I have watched multiple times in their entirities. Bleach used keep my riveted but it has gotten kinda drawn out and dry to me. I don't even watch Bleach anymore
