Has anyone watched it? It's 4 episodes, each about 10-15 minutes long (although the content is just around 7 minutes each episode) about the prelude to the King of Fighters games, where the characters all meet up in Southtown.
Anyways, I thought it had really good fighting, and good character designs for the fighters. Not too realistic like the newer video game art, and not too cartoony like the Fatal Fury character design.

I was meaning to this discuss this series. However, I am not sure if this wasn't already discussed. The search function for regular members isn't that helpful...
I thought the 4 OVAs were quite disappointing as an anime series itself. However, as KOF fan, I thought the series was okay. The animation is decent. Fight scenes are acceptable. I also found it quite strange that the conclusion of each episode ending with some explanation, but the beginning of each episode was so confusing. Because I am a KOF newbie, I didn't really recognize many of the characters (I've played up to KOF '99: Evolution) and the story didn't make much sense or piqued my interest until I saw the ending. What are Ash Crimson's intentions? Iori is pathetically weak! Why were Kyo and K' in only one episode each? Why wasn't CGY there to make an avatar or signature? (Just kidding..I vote hell ya, CGY is da coolest in that free for all thread!) Oh yeah, that scene when Mai pulls out some fans from her chest sucked! What an overt instance of fan service! Music wasn't that memorable, either.

You talking to me?
I've watched the first two so far, but kind of disappointed by this. The story is weird, and not accurate, compare to the manga and the game. (Iori is so weak, that he can't even beat the guy in the first episode)...

My opinion differs from your's though; I think the fight scenes are fluid; and a huge number of moves from the game can be seen in those OVAs. And on the plus side, no stock footage; a definite merit when you compare it to other animes out there.
But of course, due the OVA itself being less than an hour long, the budget can be used on better animation and better scenes.
Just my two cents.

Ash Crimson is a relatively new character in the King of Fighters series, so if you've only gone up to KoF 99; there's a bit of catching up to do.
Iori's weakness is explained through the summary at the end of the fourth OVA. Notice he didn't use his flames like Kyo, K' and Ash did?
That's because he didn't have his powers anymore, making him weaker than Soiree.

The same reason why most of those appearing characters (eg. Rock Howard, Terry, Mai, Athena, Maxima, Whip, Kula, etc) appearing in one episdoe only.

If you think that's bad, watch the Fatal Fury OVAs. Mai demonstrates the skimpiness of her outfit more times than nessecary in those two OVAs.
As for the music, try downloading the OST, or were you basing your judgement on the OST itself?

Wow, that's news. In the manga, they only show Iori with more and more power in his quest to defeat Kyo, but never says that he got weaker or anything like that... Interesting...

I think that all of us can agree that Mai is a dirty *expletive.* She always beats me in the game! Good thing she ain't in KOF XI! Did you guys play KOF: Evolution. I think in her winning pose she says, "bouncy, bouncy!" However, I have been told she is saying something else less "indecent"...
By the way, aSagi, I am a rabid KOF fan. I know that Iori lost his powers to Ash the effeminate poser. I believe this is true because some of my knowledge of KOF after KOF '99 is based on articles on wikipedia. I know...pathetic.
Before this post, I didn't know who was Soiree, until I look it up in wikipedia, which mentions that he knows capoeria. Cool! I thought he was just breakdancing when he was fighting the weakened Iori.
One more thing: I should thank aSagi for offering a different opinion on the whole series of KOF: Another Day. I forgot I watched it on youtube, the only place I could find it at the time. Hence, I didn't really notice the quality of the anime. Good thing I didn't submit an official review...
Hey! Why does Kyo always have those bandages on his forehead? How come his hair is so neat even though I can't see those bandages extending throughout the girth of his head? What was that jacket he was wearing? (Man, he sucked in KOF '99...No fireball, but I did learn to fight close range as a result.) Well, I am off to Southtown. I wish I could fight with cards like that Oswald guy, even though he sucks for teaming up with effeminate Ash!

I'm quite ignorant about the mangas, since I've only read one of the series. It was what, KoF 1999? The one where K' took the spotlight as the main character; and the main villian is Zero.
That's beside the point, however; are the mangas canon? I've read a portion of the manga of the following KoF series; and some of the events just don't seem to tie with each other.
For example, K' and Kula had great chemistry between them. But that part was neglected and seemed like it never happened in the following "year" of KoF.

As in the white bandanna? If I remember correctly, he dropped that fashion after he acquired the new "white coat + black shirt with yellow cross" suit. I forgot what year was that though.
Ryu (Street Fighter) has one too. They serve as what, something to keep one's hair from impairing their vision when fighting? I guess those are cases where character design overrides realism.

Oh, that was KOF 2000, where K' becomes the hero, and Zero, or shall I say, the fake Zero, is the bad guy there.
Well, yeah, Kula does have something to do with K', since they are both created by NEST, and they are also childhood friends. Apparently, Kula is like a sister to K', for before they were separated at a young age, Kula always look out and look after for K'.
The manga actually tells lots of things you won't be able to know just from the anime. For example, how Kyo was kidnapped, and how Kusanagi was created...

Hmm, I never played that game. But in KOF Evolution '99 (Dreamcast, not sure what that means to you because this was actually a port and SNK is notorious for giving misleading dates on their games), K' is introduced as the new main hero. The main villian is a guy named Krizalid, who is so hard to beat!
aSagi, why do you assume I can fight well with K'. He has a fireball. So I do cheap moves such as "The Trigger,' followed by a appended kick, which results in a fireball!!! I also like his "One Inch" and when he throws his shades to begins his Super Desperation Move. However, I have to learn how to fight like those guys in the KOF matches on youtube. Doing combos are so hard! Of course, King is the best, but why the hell wasn't she in the anime?
I have actually read one manga, King of Fighters: The Flames of Kyo. I also know at least two sites which host it. I don't really recommend it, but some people may find it to be interesting. The other KOF manga, I can also find but they are in Chinese, which I don't know particularly well...
Regarding the Another Day anime, where were all the other good characters: Kensou "I am no Pscyhic, I am a Psycho," and King? Uhh, I hate Terry's new clothes. Bring back the Fatal Fury hat!

Well, K' was first introduced in KOF 99, but he sucked back then, and he's a dog of NEST back then.
As to Terry's clothes, that's the one he wears in KOF 2003, and since Another Day is produced after the King of Fighters 2003, you'd expected to see him with it. And yeah, you are right, the old ones are better, and seems Terry also cut off his ponytail for some reason...

Well, I myself had formed the impression that when one chooses to go melee, they'll usually pick a relatively fast fighter, and can chain up a huge amount of combos once they start pummeling the opponent.
Though K''s "The Trigger" attack is considered a ranged attack, I normally use it up-close for a few follow-up moves like "Second Shell" (a.k.a the flaming uppercut kick), or Crow Bites (the flaming uppercut).
Hence, I thought you too, make use of K''s speed and go fully melee with him.
And oh, there was one video I saw with experts doing Trigger -> Second Shell -> Crow Bites -> Chain Drive with K'. I never managed to do that though, my fingers are just too slow.

Neither were Ryo, Yuri and Robert around.

I hazard a guess that Kensou's absence has something to do with him not appearing at all in KoF : Maximum Impact.
Terry's new attire coincide with the appearance of Rock Howard as a adult. I suppose SNK is trying to merge the Fatal Fury storyline, along with other ones; into a big, big, big tale of the King of Fighters.
