now that's a VERY SHORT first post.
Let me start off the thread then
First Impressions: Pretty cool, we got a nice lesson on Japanese's history. But somehow it reminded me off Pani Poni Dash, having to pause and refer to the pdf notes that was included (gg made the same method with PPD)
Art's cool, story solid (coz it is, after all, a story), music's nice (except for the strange OP). And this is certainly a must-watch if you like historical and horror genre (freaky, yeps) _________________ ...

ooo sounds cool. btw mista is the story like 'Hundred Ghost Story' anime??
Actually, without prior knowledge to the story, I still didn't find it scary. It was neither the 'shocking' scary or 'jump-out-of-your-seat' or 'cringe' scary. It was more of, wtf! The nastiest part was the hair pulling - gah!
I hate to repeat myself, but if you decide to watch Ayakashi, DO NOT watch Samurai Champloo beforehand. I'm one of those unfortunate people that watched Samurai Champloo already. Things between the two are very, very similar (even the OP!).
When watching Ayakashi, I kept expecting a funny remark or comedic situation around each corner. Thus, missing the true beauty (or ugliness) of the series.
The character designs I find are too pointy. The eyes are freakishly narrow with the prominent pink spot *shudders*. Good thing there aren't any wild hair colours, however, I had trouble distinguishing characters. I kinda mixed them up.
The first story was very good. I finally got my husband to watch it.
I did warn him that it was extremely intense and violent. After watching it, he told me, "I feel like I need to get some therapy after watching that." Still, he thinks it's very good too.
No mentions of content, as the episodes aren't subbed yet, but the next story looks fantastic. I've watched the first two parts raw, and love it! Very different from the first story. So if anyone was uncomfortable with Oiwa's story, please still watch the next, as it is wonderful.

Oh, and a comment about the notes that come with the episodes. I recommend you read the first one only. My husband read the notes for each episode before watching that episode, and it spoiled some of the moments in the anime for him. Better to read all but the first document after watching the full anime, then read the rest and watch again to get anything you didn't understand before...

Yeah I had seen Samurai Champloo first as well and when i saw the OP for Ayakashi I jumped to the conlcusion that it would be like Samurai Champloo. Edo period anime with comedic references to modern pop-culture. Also I agree about the character design, but I think the animators wanted to give the anime a traditional japanese painting look (people in trad. paintings are usually depicted with very slanted eyes).
All in all it was a pretty decent horror anime and a good history lesson. Not much gore or scare factor, but since it is a very old horror story most of the scary stuff would have been up to your own imagination.
I saw Champloo and liked it, so in conclusion, I shouldn't watch this series. I'm cool with that.
I'm slowly watching Jigoku Shoujo for my horror 'fix' and its average. The only reason why I'm sticking to it is that I like the Hell Girl, especially her underlings. But it seems to have no point. *sigh*
I looked the stories was not bad, since its rare to any history horror like so so ... But its kinda a bit less scary I thought ... Sorry to say, Im a bit sleepy when wath it... Maybe its just because result of my attitude doesn't really good at watching a history's things ... But true its surely good stories since for me its kinda "rare" ...
Man.. I also thought it was over after the first story. lol. Well, it wasn't scary, but the music was well made and used. I like that part the most. These stories would be scary to us now since our horrow flicks have more gore and blood and creepiness. It's really nice to see how Japan from their history can make such good horror flicks. _________________ Nankurunaisa
