Okay, like most folks from the States I started watching Doctor Who starting with Tom Baker but I've been a big fan (though not a Whovian) and watched quite a few of the other Doctors including the ones before Tom Baker. I guess that's why when I heard that Sci Fi was going to feature a new Doctor Who series I got a little excited at the prospect. My mind reeled with the prospect of seeing a new Doctor with modern production values and effects.
It started last week with two eps. The first ep. called Rose introduced the Doctors new companion. A cute blond english girl named Rose who meet's The Doctor while nearly being killed by animated maniquins (hey who said that just because the effects might be better the campy cheesiness of the Doctor Who series had to go away. It's still in the scripts, baby). Long story short, after saving the Earth from yet anpther alien invasion in which Rose shows a lot of guts and even saves The Doctors life, The Doctor asks Rose if she want's to hang with him in his TARDIS for a while (how's that for a cheesy pick up line).
The second ep. is Rose's first adventure with The Doctor. He takes her through time to see the Sun expand to engulf the Earth. An event which seems to be some sort of exclusive tourist destination with a space station set up for veiwing the event with an exclusive guest list of alein creatures. As usual though something is going terribly wrong. Someone is sabotaging the station and killing guests and staff.
The verdict isn't in yet on this new Doctor series. So far it seems that everything is being wrapped up within the one hour episodes. No more cliff hangers stretched over several 30 minute episodes like the old series. The companion Rose is fairly impressive. Pretty, bright, gutsy with just the right amount of awe. The new Doctor though has a tough row to hoe. There have been so many excellent actors that have played the role that if I was an actor I think I would think twice about playing The Doctor. Not to mention that there is a highly critical fan base for the series where everyone has a favorite "Doctor" and it's hard for another actor to win them over (for most Americans the favorite Doctor is usually Tom Baker who was the first Doctor that was shown in the United States). I'm still getting a feel for this Doctor. His personaity and quirks. Unlike others he dresses somewhat conservatively with all the quirks being in his personality so I'll need a better referance then the 2 eps I've seen so far before I can honestly judge him but so far I'm kinda liking this new series.
I only have one question though, and this is strictly curiousity, is this new series from the BBC? I know there are at least a couple of Brits out there and wondering if they have already seen this reincarnation of Doctor Who. _________________ "Though I am not naturally honest, I am so sometimes by chance."
