Is anime cartoon?

Directly translated, anime is definitely a cartoon, but to be put in the same category as cartoons is something i dont agree on. Like previously mentioned, i think that cartoons apply more to the children's aspect animated films. Anime is more dramatic and realistic (not to mention it looks better, exponentially). So i agree that anime and cartoons are literally the same, but are based on completely different topics.

Anime is not Cartoon for one simple reason.

in an Anime there is always a goal, no matter how crazy the anime is there is a beginning and an ending point. and everything that happens throughout the series builds up to this.

although in cartoons characters may allude to an earlier eppisode it is not always consistent with the series.

no anime is different from cartoon for starters anime has more like a drama while a cartoon is just impossible to do in real life im saying that anime are more closer to human behavior than a cartoon

I don't really know, its more of a combination of yes and no. Cause there are some anime that are like cartoons and then there are some anime thats more serious than daytime drama.

man look at anime and cartoon how the heck do u compare cartoon with anime, and saying that they are both the same thing...man dont do that

I think cartoon and anime is the same except cartoon priority is to let kid watch it but anime is to take all level of age to watch it.. That's why mostly cartoon is a funny one to entertain kid but anime is not like that.. Anime have more wider aspect to cover all type of human emotion and dream like sad,love, war and many more Smile

.. Beside that anime quality usually higher than cartoon...

but anime is definitely NOT cartoon. compared with cartoon, anime is somewhat educational while u just get plain enterainment

not true....becuz anime is a series and cartoon is not....whatsmore...typical cartoons are less detailed then anime.....

I'm sorry to say this, but I have to say striped down anime is nothing but a cartoon. But then again its not. A cartoon lacks sophistication, character developement and many more things so im really undecided...

that being said the "cartoon" is a basic tool of destruction, where by entertainingthe masses it pollutes society, with dry, chastized humor.

Anime ( to me) seems to be an evolution of cartoon there by it being a cartoon, but its now somthing more.

Anime defines a "Japanese" cartoon, while in american a cartoon is a cartoon. I just call it anime to distinguish between them.
