Well its as I'v said on many occasions already....

The word anime has been coined in the West to specificaly mean Japanese cartoons.....
where as in Japan the word is used to describe all forms of animation.....

Basicly, its still kinda confusing and maybe even slightly incorrect to call anime "cartoons" in the West Confused

i believe anime is a word japanese use to diff between japan and other countries cartoon...

BUT~!!!!

juz think bout' it...Japanese Anime is much, much much more detailed then other's....When was the last time u seen a non-3D cartoon
(what i mean by 3D cartoon is like toy story and Nemo)

more detailed then anime???

therefore....the japanese deserve the word anime for their cartoons for the hardwork they put in.

KeLw> I see you'v put a lot of reserch and thought into that post....and have bothered to take the time to read other posts too.....~

sorry......sarcasm just suddenly came over me......I appologies....

But to enlighten us all a little bit...I'll quote Wikipedia......

Quote:
In Japan, the term is a broad one, and does not specify an animation's nation of origin or style. In English speaking countries the word is used usually only to refer to animated programming of Japanese origin. However, Some non-Japanese works are erroneusly called anime if they borrow stylistically from the medium.

As Wikipedia said

Quote:
A cartoon is any of several forms of art, with varied meanings that evolved from one to another.

So cartoon means different kind of arts
But isnt anime a form of art too?

Well, to me, anime is a form of cartoon, but of more mature and interesting storylines, plots and characters.

To me, the normal cartoons are rather one dimensional, very childish, and is usually aimed at kids. Well, most cartoons anyway, with the exception of a few. Anime is not just for kids, they're for people of all ages. And just so anyone wonders, i watch both cartoons and anime Laughing I watch all forms of animation XD

Wut about the show that came on that was on toonami that was called duel master,i might consider that anime but wut about IGPX that come on at toonami
If u list toonami as the programs of show that is for kids wut about IGPX,that is not cartoon but really a anime show.
To me cartoon not so different from anime so y not called cartoon anime
But i dont want to consider Pokemen a anime because that is childish to be called anime anyways
