Anime based off of Games, and vice versa! Good or Bad?

So like I said before, Anime based off of games.

Here's what I remember so far:

-Tales of Phantasia

-Tales of Eternia

-Xenosaga

Of those three, only Eternia was the wierdest. It was a side-story to the game, and all of these wierd characters.

Ah, probably because I've never played Eternia.

Actually, of the 3, I've only played Tales of Phantasia. =/

Tales of Phantasia? It's actually for SNES, Playstation, and GBA.

This one was the first game of all the Tales series, and still my favorite.

Hmm... it varies I guess. Dothack the game was much more fun than the animes... In my opinion. Like hacksign... omg... boringest anime EVER.

Most of the time, if a video game came first than the animes based on them kinda suck. And vice versa...

Even though its not really a japanese anime, I thought that Nightmare Before X-mas Oogie's Revenge was pretty good. Up to par with the movie. But alas, it was not THAT good as the movie.

FMVs are nice, but in most types of games it only makes sense to have them be used as openings and endings...RPGs being the obvious exception (FMVs can be used for pretty much any major plot point in RPGs).

Making games that are based off of anime isn't an innately bad or good thing, it depends on the anime and what type of game is trying to be made...for instance the new Samurai Champloo game is fun and has the right feel as an Action RPG...but Card Captor Sakura might not make a very good action RPG on the other hand.

As for making anime that is based off of games, it really depends on whether or not the story of the game ends up constricting the plot of the anime. Most fighting game based anime have this problem, mainly because fighting game plots come in smaller packages than most other types of games. The Sakura Wars series does a good job in taking various parts of the story from the games and turning it into an anime. Actually, pretty much all of the anime I personally own is a anime based of a video game so I can at least say I tend to enjoy some of them...

Xenosaga, is well done if u think of it as an anime/movie. but as an rpg.......lets just say its really really bad. all the chacters, movies and voice recording are great, but like shining force neo, the chacters in order to do any type of damage, have to repeat themself's and their deathblows, toomuch and that means their chatchphrases too. (i still hear Shion's "Spell Ray" in my sleep and Jr.'s "Last Syphonie" i know i didnt spell that right, so dont shoot my head off ok?)

Tales of Phantasia ive played for gba. sprites and lots of em. its great if u dont mind that the fights can run themslefs with little or no interference from you, the player, and you cant get manule control mode till 3/4 of the way through the game. by then you chould care less. so its basicly like watching a great story but, haveing no control over what happens during the repetive fighting

Think of this as one giant game review board. heh heh

I quess i could concider the game good because of the anime design that use on it and the battle system but im find if it use the samething over again.If it isnt that great it is ok since the other stuff even it out so it would be find for a anime game.But as u said the moves that they do is too much so i quess if they make a better tales game they should at least fix that problem.If they do it would be better more or less.Sometimes when they give each char more move u cant decide which one to use or which to use to counter another move.
