Correction : MAIN story is only six episodes.

They are fillers, but they add to the story. Especially if there's ever a season two. If you read the books, you'll find out why.

About the frog costume, you'll have to either read the books or wait for season two. Or read the spoiler

They work during the summer vacation 'Endless Eight' as one of the things Haruhi wants to do. At this one store they work at, that was their pay, a frog costume.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED THREE YEARS AGO?

Maybe it's stated somewhere within the page of this thread... or in the internet somewhere. I did try the keywords: haruhi + suzumiya + 3 + years + ago and only got anime blog entries that doesn't answer the question.

Can someone solidify/re-search an answer? Or is this like the talking cat that the anime never revealed?

Till then, I guess I should read the novel... Confused

I read in a forum somewhere about a hypothesis that Kyon has the real God-like power. He is the protagonist (kinda) after all. The "NARRATOR" (if that's not a hint, I dunno what is).

Notice how Haruhi has been obsessing about weird/special beings since a long time ago, but nothing happened?? Then she met Kyon, got him involved with her ideas, and now it became true?

In the Prologue of the novel, Kyon stated that he gave up on the idea of these things in junior high... Junior high is 3 years before senior high. 3 years ago...

Again, this is just some random blah-ings of me inspired by a post somewhere... who knows? Embarassed

Spoiler time!

A lot of things happened three years ago. ^^. Tanabata three years ago was when Kyon returned from the second world that Nagato created and helped Nagato (1) and Asahina-san (Big) stop the world from changing. It was when one of the Kyon's there help Haruhi draw the things/runes on the top of the roof as 'John Smith'. It was the time he went back with Nagato (2) and Asahina-san (Small) to a second time to save himself by attacking the reborn Asakura and taking care of the changed Nagato (3). Any of those could've triggered it

But, to try and answer your real question, I'd say that Haruhi met 'John Smith' wearing a North High uniform (since it's Kyon). That made her want to go to North High, and it also proved to her that somewhere out there, there was 'something special'. Which triggered the data explosion. This is just what I've inferred, by the way. The author could go in a completely different route altogether.

And the Cat thing was explained. Haruhi wanted it, ergo, it was there. Just the fact that it's a MALE three-coloured cat explains a lot.

Wait... are you guys sure that's in the anime? I'm pretty sure none of those things happened in anime...
Or are you refering to the books? perhaps this is the wrong section to spoil the books' story line.

I really don't care about finding more about what's what behind the story line. I'll just watch the next season and enjoy it as it is. I haven't got the energy to go read translated texts... If it was a game or manga, I'd be interested, but with just words? no thanks.

Folks, sometime tonight i am going to clean up the reviews of this anime.. some people posted partial reviews when the show was still being subbed... so they might have to rewrite them.. i will of course pm everyone who needs to rewrite theirs.

A lot of people above seemed to be disappointed when they finally saw the series after it was so overly hyped. I was lucky enough to have gotten a hold of the fansubs through a friend, so I never knew Haruhi was such a big deal until I saw gundams dancing on youtube. Seeing a show is only good when viewing ignorant. Tatoeba I saw Borat after all my friends urged me to see it. The result was IMO a low class movie with the aftertaste of Azamat...

As for season 2, if it is confirmed, they probably will come up with an inferior product because MoHS is already overexposed and the novelty has worn off. They would need major fanservice in the form of a more screwed airing order and a second ED with dancing...

MoHS's second season will only have to be storyline continuation, because all the hype has actually worned off, unless they can come out with more more new/exciting/unique/absurd which i have no idea how they will actually be able to to that.

Another ED with dancing will look pretty old, seriously. But then, there are so many ideas then dancing to make the ED scenes look good.

Yes kids, it's the actual animation. Seems like KyoAni looked at all the Youtube vids and decided to make one of their own. =)

I've seen it all folks and I don't think this anime is all that hyped up to be.

To me I think she is a brat the force be people to do things for her own selfishness reasons and pleasure.

hmm she reminds me of some one and that is Desert Punk.
