A joint studio effort fr Geneon Entertainment (Fate/Stay Night, Shakugan no Shana, Ergo Proxy) and Madhouse (Gungrave, Tenjou Tenge, Texhnolyze, Kiba, NANA, Yume Tsukai) we get a new potential anime Black Lagoon!! XD
Fr Animenfo
When Okajima Rokuro visits Southeast Asia carrying a top secret disk, he is kidnapped by pirates riding in the torpedo boat, “Black Lagoon”. Although he thought he would be rescued soon, the company actually abandons him, and sends mercenaries to retrieve the secret disk. He narrowly escapes with his life, but has nowhere to go. He gives up his name and past, and resolves to live as a member of the Black Lagoon.
I have a high expectation on this, hope it won't be a let down ^_^

When I saw the promo I thought the show would be similar to Full Metal Panic, Military-comedy anime.
After seeing the first ep, I have to say I was pleasently surprised with the quality of the animation and overall seriousness of the characters. Pretty action-packed first ep and some might even go so far as to say this anime has a lot of gun-porn ^^
I thought it looked more similar to GitS SAC than FMP, but that just my opinion.
As far as the show goes it has alot of potential, since it's only been one episode it could go either way. I'm looking forward to see what Rocko will do.
Very much offtopic I must ask if any one has found any wallpapers for this series yet.

I think the character designs are fairly similar to FMP, but I was really referring more to the comedic side of military (if there is such a thing) that FMP has. You could easily tell that GitS SAC is supposed to be serious, but FMP characters seem more comedic.

only kidding, saw the promo and it looked interesting, glad to say the first ep lived u pt my expectations, even though i didnt really know what to expect. The animation was good, and everything played out nicely. The caracters seem pretty good and i was waiting for the simple office to finally snap XD. hopefully he has some fun in ep2 hehehe. This is certainly one to keep an eye on

I thought you where referring to the comedic part of the FMP. Black Lagoon didn't seem to have that much comedy in it, seems to me to be somewhat more serious than FMP. Maybe not as serious as GitS SAC.
Only time will tell if there will be more humour or not in it.

its full of action, that much i can say, so far the first ep covered half of chapter0 of the manga, and a pretty good conversion from comic to animation at that, the manga i really enjoy, and i was wondering how well the action scenes in the paper be like if animated, and so far its done quite well..
i like the pacing of the show as well, i hope they keep it up,not too rushed imo, its just right.
cant wait for the next few episodes, i do hope they get permission to play white zombies 'electric head pt1' for a certain action scene to come, those reading the manga woud know what i mean ^_~)
I have a bone to pick with it. The setting is present day, so why the heck do they mention Malaya in it??? At least they could have done thier historical research! *Sigh* I was laughing soo much from it that I had to pause the show before I could continue on.
Somehow the show seems to remind me of Madlax (which for me is not a good thing). It has potential still, so will be watching a few more episodes before I decide if it is worth going the distance with.

I think by Malaya, he means the Malaya lands (Malaysia, Indonesia). Well, this is good enough to capture my attention (Hey, it's revolving in the SEA area, my area!! ) and to tell the truth, there are many pirates too in that area... (or so I think) _________________ ...
Import some ninjas so the pirates numbers go down, and to finally bring empirical proof which is better: pirates or ninjas?
Madlax sucked, as the action was not intense or enjoyable, which Black Lagoon did fine. It's a little cheesy, but I kind of liked that. I'll watch more in the future to see how terrible it'll become.

Well, it is another manga to anime convert. I am already expecting manga spoilers and also, if it goes bad, the whining from the manga readers stating OMG Why is it new story!!! or something
Sidenote: OP done by Mell of I've, no wonder it got stuck in my head _________________ ...
well I as there's only 1 ep of lagoon out atm it's kinda hard to compare it to madlax. But anyway, it'l be interesting to see what the japanese guy does.

Malaya is basically Penisular Malaysia. It has nothing to do with Indonesia.
Yes, pirates is a security problem in SEA but it is also home to one of the major international shipping lanes.
