Genshiken / Kujibiki Unbalance Synopsis & Review

I am curious as to how many members here are or will be watching this gem Smile

You beat me to it, i was about to start the thread for this show Surprised

The first episode was great. I couldn't see a thing that was different from the manga which i liked a lot. I'm really looking forward to the next episodes.

I was fooled by the opening Razz

Really, i was sure i didn't download the right episode. It's amazing how they "created" an anime inside an anime, and i hope we'll see more of it in the next episodes.

While watching episodes 2, 3 ( other language ) and 4 ( raw ), I have one of the biggest laughing sessions of my life

Seriously

This anime is for otakus to laugh at themselves ( if they can even compare themselves to Japanese otakus ) or non-otakus to have a look at the otaku's lifestyles, way of thinking and reactions ( though I think it is mostly true but mildly exaggerated ).

So far there are many good things going on with this anime version of the manga...

Episode 02
Poor Saki Laughing

... Mostly I had watched shows where the guy is the one desiring to get close to the girl but gets foiled. The reversal of roles really makes it entertaining Laughing

I think it was nice that the anime did not exaggerate her dejection with the 'shattering screen or heart' scene ( though I had that image constantly running throughout Laughing

) but instead came with the 'oh, woe is she' narration which actually made it funnier.

Episode 03
Some interesting exhibition of behaviour here. Sasahara's pacing ( stalking ) over the first doujinshi reminded me very well of my own behaviour when I saw something interesting but deliberated whether to buy it or not ( due to finances or some weird fear of possible impressions of other shoppers ). Pacing up and down past the item sneaking glances at it Laughing

Then of course it seems even among otaku clubs, politics are at play with Haraguchi.

Episode 04
Saki's reactions are a riot. The anime gave her a "Karate Chop" to dispense her angry looks. Laughing

Oh no! It is Ohno!!! Laughing

Her interest illustrates that even among otakus, it is not a standard community and there is shame over certain particular interests ( justified or not ).

Saki's image of Kosaka during her talk with her ex was also more visually 'dirty' than the manga's and hence was more hilarious to me. Speaking of Kosaka, he is GG's Sol Badguy king.

Sometimes you just feel sad for Saki when the person she decided to love spends more attention on something else rather than her...

So far, the anime has been staying quite faithful to the manga with a few embellishments and adaptations but I just wonder how far will the anime crew stay faithful to the manga since the series is 12 episodes. Will they end it at Volume 4 ( I suspect contents in Volume 5 would be too late for them then to adapt in ) as is? Or would they come up with something of their own...

Anyway I like the endings. They show the aftermath of or another camera angle of a scene in the episodes. Each episode so far has a different ending which is nice Smile

(it sounds like the same oice of the Poptan & DearS OP, ... but yet a bit different too :'( so i am not sure .... )
