Well it is now time for me to enforce this officially
In case the anime is formally a manga (i.e manga-anime conversion) then the following rules applies:
1. NO MANGA SPOILER (Yes, including those which are put in the spoiler tags)
2. NO MANGA DISCUSSION
3. Comparing anime-manga is only possible, when the comparision doesnt gives out ANY SPOILER regarding the anime.
The same goes for the hgame-anime conversion or whatever conversion it is, just replace the word MANGA with the approriate word.

I hate to say it... but episode 6 has dropped the series back to a 9 in my eyes.... the flow is just not as strong as I wanted it to be.. further I feel no anger/empathy/hate/love towards the good guy or the bad guy....
This needs more.
When I think of this series.. I think of the closest series to it... probably Monster.... and Monster did a GREAT job making you feel angry/hateful/fearful of the bad guy and made you feel bad towards the good guy... at least you knew what you should feel like.... not just be completely neutral like in this series. Maybe it will improve later to a 10.

The information I was following regarding the live action movie was that there will be two parts to it, the first which has come out already, and the second to be released at the same time as the anime, along with a game as well... I'll try to find the link where I read this from...
Ep 4 is out now...hoping to see L come out of the shadows - though it's still early I think?
Yep, the second part just came out I think and it REALLY deviates from the manga.... a much better ending I think!
It'll be cool if the anime followed the movie.
But right now Faebinder is correct, Light is just testing and matching wits with L. The emotion of the manga has somehow been lost in the transistion. I think the high point has been the end of the FBI agents' arc. But pretty soon things will change according to the manga =) _________________
Yeah, it'd be cool, but it is probably not gonna happen. I wish I hadn't read the manga sometimes. The anime is well done, but it is completely spoiled if you've read the manga beforehand.
And, about the ending, I really didn't think it was bad.... but that discussion belongs to another forum.

Really? I didn't think it was that bad. Sometimes you kind of need slow episodes. Although it is really true that the whole "mind games" thing seems to work better in manga form. Still, this episode seems more like a "calm before the storm" kind of thing. _________________

I read the manga, but this series is still very entertaining to watch.

Is this thing ever going to come to america? I'm angry if it isn't. _________________ I will... never be a memory.

Most likely. I think that the manga was very well received in America, and the anime probably will. I believe it is only a matter of time before someone licenses it. I hope it takes a while before the license, though. If it gets licensed I think Live-eviL will drop it, and those are the subs I'm watching. =P _________________

I finally get around to watching the Death Note anime and I have to say I'm extremely impressed. I've never read the manga and have only seen the trailers for the live-action movie, so I didn't know what to expect, but I've found this anime to be extremely entertaining and intriguing.
So far I'm suitably impressed to give this a 10 out of 10. Animation and story are top notch. The pacing suits me and I'm craving new episodes all the time. OP and ED aren't really my cup of tea which is a shame, but the background music is perfect. Therefore I can't justify giving the show anything less than 10/10... for now
It's a definite addition to my "anime-to-follow" list. _________________ [img:460:60:e14c938338]http://images.minitokyo.net:8001/sigs/kidder.gif[/img:e14c938338]
I haven't read the manga or anything, but one thing I have been wondering is wether or not kira could write his own name in the death note. If so he could control the time of his death and garuntee himself a long life. I don't remeber reading any rules against that.
I just finished ep 10 and I was truely impressed. Maybe it's just because I haven't watched a lot of mystery/horror animes and my senses have not yet been dulled to the genre; but I was really on the edge of my seat the whole episode! The music totally drew me in as well.
It seems wrong to say I love this anime because it is so sad, but there's a lot of amazing things about it.

Actually if I remember correctly, there's limit to how much of the person's actions you can control with Death Note. If it's anything that defies the rules of nature or out of that person's own ability, it automatically defaults back to heart attack. If he wrote it down, he'll just die of heart attack in few mins.

I'm a little confused as to the role that the Shinigami play in the Death Note universe. Are they an important integral part of the Heaven and Hell system or are they merely "predators" that prey on the life-force of humans, simply to sustain their own existence?
Another paradox I noticed:
Since the Shinigami eyes can see a person's name and remaining life-span, wouldn't that imply that "Fate" exists (since a person's life-span is pre-defined)? But then if a Shinigami or Light kills a person, doesn't that go against "Fate" since they are killing the person "before-their-time" and hence negate the existence of Fate?
well I think that the death gods are suggested to have played a more integral role in the universe long ago, but as the stage set up for Light, it turns out that all the death gods have become lazy caring little more for their universal importance than it takes to simply continue living. Hence Ryuk is frustrated and he intentionally drops his death note in the human world, whom are apparently an especially interesting species, just to see what a human death god will do.
Ryuk compliments light early on in the series telling him that he is already a much better death god than any of his collegues. So it seems that if the shinigami were ever anything more than predators, they have lost that ambition.
Addressing the Fate paradox, I don't think that the show is really concerned about it. Fate is acknoledged as real, but the shinigami powers simply trump the forces of fate. Once the stories' mechanics are set up, the bulk of the story is really just a spy vs spy thriller. I don't think that they are too worried about explaining the paradoxes too much.
Hopefully, however, by the time the show comes to an end Ryuk will have found some purpose or resolution of the lazyness issue for himself and his kind.
Heh, I came with the same idea at about the same time Martin_G.
It would require some careful wording "Dies at the end of his expected lifespan from painless death", but I could see it being done.
However, if it didn't work, or if it wasn't worded carefully enough, it could cause instant death by heart attack, and that would lead to problems. It's a high risk venture with only a moderate reward and low chance of success.
