Well...it has come to my attention that games these days just aren't what they used to be. I find it that there is really nothing fresh comming out and everything is just a bunch of sequels (bad ones to say the least). Of course, it is pretty hard to make an innovative game now days since most of the original ideas have already been taken. Along the long line of time we will see less and less innovation, unless something totally new comes up and changes the face of gaming (which we are hoping Nintendo's Wii will be able to produce).

I mean it really is discouraging to see innovative games go down the hole. Recently a game titled Psychonauts was released and it was probably one of the most original works that I've seen in a while, and what happens? The gaming community gave it good reviews, but the sales didn't back up those claims. Look what happened, Psychonauts had one of the most dissapointing sales results.

It seems as if the gaming community is more interested in sequels such as the Halo franchise or the Final Fantasy franchise (just a generic assumption, while there are plenty of other series out there these two are in my opinion the biggest names). But who can blaime them? Sticking with something they know to be good has been a way of life and that will continue. To make a connection just think about how you live your life, if you use a decent internet connection for a while and you see another internet provider you wouldn't consider even trying their internet service.

Okay, that was just something to put you in the right mindset. This thread has one soul purpose, and that is to ask you what do you xpect most in new gen games? Pitch me some game ideas like a story, what genre and art style. Think of something new. For all you know, you might be the gaming communities next rising star.

You idea should include:
-A title.
-Basic plot.
-Genre.
-Unique game mechanics (optional).

I look foward to seeing all of your ideas.

people don't like to adapt to change, apparently. They like to stick with what's familiar. Same goes for movies which is why we see III's and IV's and such.

My perfect game would be a XenoSaga first-person-shooter with GTA free-range access. I want to go where I want, when I want. I want a sci-fi backdrop and I want it to look pretty. I hate leveling up... a points system would be better. Don't improve my abilities, increase the awesomeness of the weapons I can get.

.... ahhh.... perfect

I'd rather much prefer moving on with the story as opposed to spending three hours beating the crap out of the same 3 or 4 guys just so I stand a fighting chance against enemies in the upcoming areas. Gimme a rocket launcher or a gattling gun or a BMG to teach those punks some lesson-type lessons.

but I digress... don't want to tear this thread off in a wild tangent when it's about video game perfection

i've never liked games like that.
at first your competing againest your friends to see
who can put in more hours into time consuming games
where in the end your just trying to attain a rank by
mindlessly killing things. really where the fun? after
the first 5 hrs you'll just be bored outta your mind.

i liked RO and such but after awhile...it just bores the hell outta me
how can people even keep going?

I like halo. My friend and I play halo 2 for hours. We play the multiplayer one and just kill each other for hours. I like the guns idea. Who gives about levels. i want better guns. More fun differnt ways to blow up things and just shoot them. It wouldbe nice if you could get differnt enemies along the way. So you don't always play the same people gets old.

ya it does. Like it would be cool if halo were to introduce other enimeies. Like go to another planet and ranks are cool, but if you were to have points with your ranks that could set you aside because you could have way more points and you would still be at the same rank. The gun upgrades are cool too. I don't like when certain games go on forever. Some are good and the makers want to stick to what makes them money. they don't really car about new things just as long as they get money.

But if makers keep on making the same games over and over again, then there will only be a set number of games that will last. Sooner or later people like myself will start to get notice and more and more developers will start to realize the necessity for change.

However, the market is a bit discouraging seeing as Advent Rising was fairly innovative, but didn't make it that far. It was even supposed to be a trilogy (funny seeing as how makers these days see that trilogies are far superior over any other set), but the sales were so low for Advent Rising that they have now stated that the next two installments will be on board game format.

What we need now is something new. Although I agree with some statements that leveling up can become a pain, it is the simple fact that leveling is a incentive. You gain something from leveling such as a power up or new items. If you never level up, then you basically don't see your character go through major physical changes. Of course, many games have come a long way even without using the leveling mechanic. Point and case being Mario (with the exception of the Mario and Luigi and etc).

My question to you all is what makes a good game? Rather, what sells a game?

When you look at a game do you intially think about how cool it would be to play? Does that mindset take you to the point on wanting to make a purchase? Or do you rather rent a game? Read a review?

what sells a game is a very complex subject. First is the Demographics~ there are more men gamers (not saying there aren't women gamers), but there are just more of the guys that play games. then what do guys like? cars, guns, sexy chicks, a good story, and random fun.

therefore, racing games, FPS, DOA, Final Fantasy and katamari have all been wildly successful.

then we have to look at cost and development. there's lots of good ideas out there, but it'd cost too much to cram it all into one game, i think. the ppl wouldn't want to buy a $100 game, at least the casual gamers.

also there's something to be said about originality. lots of games have been made; so coming up with something new is actually pretty hard. you'd have to be ver creative to do something COMPLETELY original; most games are influenced by others, be it gameplay, concept, or story.

i'd tell you about my "game concept", but the internets is a scary place; someone might take my ideas Twisted Evil

peolpe can just keep playin cuz they get addicted to the games to easily.
i kinda agree w/ what you were sayin about competin, my bro plays halo 2 several hours everynight. he went to some convention to see how good he was against other players in the country. he got his @$$ kicked. he lost in the first round w/ only 21 kills.

just shows ya that some people really have no lifes at all

i dont think there is a perfect game because it is based on people's opinions.
in fact different people have a different taste so to one might think Dragon ball z is cool but others might not.
in my opinion i think the gta series are the perfect games for me
