Hmm... I faintly remember that there was a topic on this in the old boards, so I'll try to revive it.
A little background... The series is based on a book by some author that I can't remember the name of, hence the amazing character development and storyline pacing. However, originally planned to be a 68 episode series, it was cut short because of disagreements between the author and the producer, NHK, regarding the role of the main character. But after watching the 44 episodes that were produced, it was still a massively satisfying series that resolves all of the plotlines of the main character.
After seeing countless series that has carbon copy/cookie cutter anime female characters that goes through their pathetic "damsel in distress" motions, this was a refreshing change. The way the characters grew and changed is definitely something that I've never seen before (had high hopes for Scrapped Princess in this category, but it ultimately fell short after the first 12 episodes). Honestly, this is a series that needs to be seen to be believed, and is my new no.1 anime. It also is pretty close to inspiring me to try to get the fan translations of the novels just to see what happens after the series conclusion (and the gaping plot hole of one of the characters).
It's out on American DVDs, but if you're too cheap, check your local BT sites for it. |

wow i've been teetering on the edge of watching this or not but now i'm glad i started it. i just finished ep 1 and even from the first ep i expect great things from this anime. characters are all pretty real and relatable and emotion is carried across well. you can really see the bewilderment in the main character's eyes as a rush of events begin to occur that eventually carry her into another world. i'll post again once i've watched more to see if my expectations will be met. _________________ is life really so long as to allow us to spend each day dreaming about tomorrow?

44 isn't the last episode. They did an interesting thing with this series...
We all know how common it is for an anime adaption of another work to progress nicely until some barrier is met with the creator of the original work, and more often then not that's the downfall/finish of the anime (i.e. Rurouni Kenshin). Juuni Kokki decided to... take a break. The show will continue; hell, there's even a preview dialogue for 45 at the end of 44; but, we have to wait a little while...
Personally, I can't wait til they get going again... this is absolutely a PHENOMENAL series, one that people will be talking about for years to come. _________________ You can't hold no groove if you ain't got no pocket. |

I finally finished watching the first arc and I was completely blown away. Probably the most addictive anime I've seen since Fruits Basket and FMwS. Definitely one of the contenders for the top of my list atm. I was amazed at the ability of the creators to make an entirely new world even down to the way people are born. This makes the whole story more fascinating and really gives it that epic feel that Fushigi Yuugi lacked. I cant wait for my ep 15 download to finish so that I can watch that ep instead of study for my PSCI exam I have tomorrow -_- _________________ is life really so long as to allow us to spend each day dreaming about tomorrow?

44 is the last ep....for now....ep 45 is suppose to be a summary ep
first season consists of 39 eps and second season starts at ep 40 and runs a little side story from 40-44.
the series was cancelled cuz of problems that occured in the manga...supposidly the main characters were suddenly switch, but i heard they might continue the tv series in the following year(s)
i saw all thats out, deals mainly with fantasy, magic, drama and politics. its pretty good, id recommend it for those who like this genre but it does tend to run long at times. _________________

yeah this is definetley one of my favorite animes, atually i think it would have been better for them not to make ep 41-45 and just finish at ep 40(i think thats the last ep in first season), then i probably would not care as much when they droped the |

How ironic ><
This show is for people of all ages. I don't see what would make it for mature audiance only. |

Heh. Yeah, I guess i'm being a prick.
In the end it's great story. I would recomend it to anyone that ejoys anime with a thick plot and a rich story.
I keep my fingurs crossed that someone will translate and distribute the novels. From what I've heard the anime only scatchs the surface of the amount of detail.
FYI, I long lost the link for the artical on the animators site, but one of the reasons they stopped the show was that I was becoming to difficault to tell a story that was heavily narrated. They felt that they could addiquetly portray that characters. Also, Yoko story arc pretty much ended there. The rest of the story is about the other characters. |

I've read some fan-translated parts of the story that continues after NHK cancelled production, and it was mostly used to tie up Taiki's storyline. I'm not exactly sure if it ended there, but the translations only went up to the end of that arc.
Wow... I'm actually kind of surprised that so many people liked this series. I still got the knack for picking them, haha... Seriously though, this is still a very underappreciated series, but it's become the only series that I try to plug to my friends. Screw telling them to watch Naruto or whatever, shows like this is the reason why I prefer anime over American crap. It just feels long lasting, and yeah, let's hope for a new season. |
