just watched on DVD:
Mongol
[img:426:599:5bd528c0b3]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/81/Mongol_poster.jpg/426px-Mongol_poster.jpg[/img:5bd528c0b3]
A good movie, not the best in terms of fighting and the war scenes but it did entertain me enough.
Best scene would be when Temudgin sent his few elite horsemen (16 ish) to fight the first detachment of Jamukha's army which numbered in the hundreds at least... they all died though... some sort of kamikaze tactic i think...
either way... a good enough movie... _________________

The Truman Show
An insurance salesman/adjuster discovers his entire life is actually a TV show. Imagine since birth, everything in your life is controlled and scripted and everyone you knew were all just part of one big act. A wonderful movie that's comical and satirizes many aspects of life and yet can deliver a heart warming and sad feeling. This movie also created the "The Truman Show Delusion" where people believe that their life is one big reality tv show.
Heres a good quote I like from the movie: We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented. _________________

Valkyrie
My second (?) cousin told wasn't specific at all when she said we were going to watch this movie; just that it was a movie about war and Tom Cruise. Valkyrie was a pretty a-ok movie, it was exciting while historically educational at the same time. Probably the best Nazi movie I've seen. _________________

007: Quantum of Solace
I heard many mixed-reviews about the latest Bond-flick before I finally got to see it in theaters (special weekend-only release in Japan was last night... the full official-release will be next week). The promoters said it was the most "action-packed" 007 yet, while fans said there was hardly any action at all.
I don't know what those crackhead fans were saying, but there was definitely action in this film. Car chases, gun-fights, explosions... maybe people have just become so jaded to movie-action that they don't even notice it anymore.
I do have some complaints about the new Bond movies though. Forgive the ranting, but they have completely and totally broken the campy 007-formula. There have been like 30 films made, and they have all followed the same equation:
1) start with the gun barrel following Bond across the screen until it gets shot and the screen drips with blood
2) open up with some espionage followed by some kind of super-awsumo escape scene with tons of action (the Brosnan films were the bst for these, IMHO)
3) start the official theme-song sung by whatever singer is hot at the time
then when the film starts, there is always an inclusion of the same elements:
- the Q Branch: Bond gets all these wicked cool spy gadgets, including a suped-up car. I'm assuming the death of Desmond Llewelyn (the guy who played the lead-scientist in all the movies) was the reason for the removal of this... sorry Mr. Cleese.
- maniacal villain with some ridiculous scheme to take over the world. Now it's all politics and crap. We want cheesy badguys, dammit!!!!
- hot actress to play the useful girl. There was a time when becoming "the next Bond girl" was the defining moment in a young girl's career. Now it just seems like they cast anyone like normal... oh well, at least the rumors of Britney Spears starring in this film never came to fruition.
- hot actress to play the badguy's useful girl... see above
the latest film had none of the above... sigh~ _________________

Kevin- looks interesting. I'll see if I can find it.
Recently watched W.
[img:566:418:94439a60cb]http://themovingpicture.net/wp-content/uploads/contest_w_posters.jpg[/img:94439a60cb]
This movie is really persuasive! Made me feel for Jr.- I mean, W. Makes him looks like a sympathetic bubble-head and all the bad things we associate him with are actually evil plans of Dick Gun-ho to rule the world!
I can't say about accuracy. A lot are common knowledge and a few are just speculation. But its an interesting aspect. Not everything based on true events or people has to be accurate. _________________

Taken. The dad is so kickass ~ it's so awesome ^^ Although it does scare you from wanting to go over to France for a little bit
He's just not that into you. Great Cast. Great movie. I haven't enjoyed a movie this much in a while. Chick flick, but insightful. It's funny, because you know it's true. Fairly predictable in terms of what was gonna happen with the coupling, but all in all a very enjoyable film. _________________ Get ready to vote for who you think is the Sexiest Anime Character!! |

| Watched Shutter ( the America one, not the original Thailand version) with a bunch of friends. It was horrible; the movie sucked big time. The ghost doesn't even look like a ghost: just some emo looking girl. No bloodshot eyes, messy hair and that sort. It wasn't scary at all because
firstly, one of the guys got killed in broad day light, they changed the original creepy bio lab to a new office and they took out the scene in which the Thai ver had the ghost crawling beside the car.

Pretty good low-budget, independent horror film. Although plot has been done before, the monster is very unique. A turn off might be the shaky camera and it lacks a clear view of the monster though thats probably a good thing since it might look silly instead of frightening. Although acting is meh, the characters are likable, not the idiots that plague B-movies. _________________

I went and saw X-men Origins: Wolverine last night. It's been a long time since I've gone and saw a movie at the cinemas. Popcorn and everything is sooooooo expensive. Anyway the movie was very very good. I hadn't realised Wolverine/Logan was so cool, I always thought he was just the tough guy in the other X-men movies. I haven't followed any of the comics so I'm not sure how faithful they were. But all in all it was very enjoyable, plenty of kickass action and lots of Hugh Jackman half nakkie
Also ... are the mutants immortal? Coz he's been alive since before 1845 or something _________________ Get ready to vote for who you think is the Sexiest Anime Character!! |
