I happened to be browsing around when I found this:

5-7-06 (11:59PM EDT)---- Gundam SEED To Become Animated Film
Sunrise has announced Gundam SEED will become an animated theatrical feature to be directed by Mitsuo Fukuda. Although it will based on the 2002-2004 tv anime, the plot is expected to be all new. This marks the first original Gundam Movie since Mobile Suit Gundam F91 opened in 1991. T.M. Revolution will perform the theme song to the film and also made an announcement at "SonyMusic Anime Fes.06" in Tokyo on the 7th. The event, held at Shibuya AX over Saturday and Sunday of this past weekend drew a total of 30,000. A release date has not yet been announced. |

So, once more we'll have Mitsuo Fukuda at the helm and TM Revolution playing the tunes. No further details available at this point. I can't emphasize enough: This is NOT a compilation movie, for the Gundam SEED Special Editions are done and out in the market. This is most likey a sequel to Gundam SEED Destiny.
Personally I'm not to thrilled at the prospect of having Mitsuo Fukuda as a director again. I was kind of happy when I found out that he was keeping his hands off the Stargazer OVAs. If his wife Chiaki Murosawa (I think that's her name anyway) is placed in charge of the script again the movie will be more likely a flop. Only a few times I've wished I were wrong so much. No choice but to wait and see, then.
No release date available. Yet. _________________

| I don't think Fukuda is purely to blame for the fiasco that is Gundam Seed Destiny. The husband-wife duo did a great job with the first installment Gundam Seed, but I reckon the dismal failure of Destiny might have been due to the Production company making silly demands (i.e. unrealistic production schedule, forcing Fukuda to include new characters and new Gundams to increase merchandising potential). I'm not saying the Fukudas are completely innocent, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it was all their fault. |

huh? fukuda is in charge again? the last seed anime series that he make is suck, now they want him to take the helm again?
what is the producer thinking about? but i hope that this movie would be much better in term of script and motion picture scene. _________________

If it goes like Destiny, then the movie will look like this
0:00-20:00 - copied the first episode of Seed completely, just recolored the pictures and included even more stock material. Athrun somehow turns out on the badguy's side.
20:00-30:00 - flashback of what happened during the last 20 minutes
30:00 - 40:00 - New enemies appear in brand new gundams and are defeated in the blink of an eye by even newer gundams from the good side. After that they play no further role. Athruns gundam destroyed and he returns to the good side.
40:00 - Athrun gets a new gundam (Infinite Justice Forever)
40:01 - Kira reactivates Strike Freedom, Athrun self-destructs his new gundam
40:00 - 50:00 - flashback time
50:00 - Lacus puts together a new gundam for Athrun (Infinite Justice Forever Ultimate)
50:01 - 52:00 - badboy is identified and gets his ass kicked by Kira, Athrun, Shinn |

When it comes to asking "whose fault is it that GSD sucked?" fingers point everywhere. I won't say that Bandai and Sunrise weren't at fault with it, but the fact that Fukuda managed to do a good job in Gundam SEED is, in my opinion, proof that he could have handled things better than he did in GSD. Also people sy that his wife turned in scripts late and did a rather sloppy job overall. That is the way a sub-par writer works, so getting a better relacement for the future would probably be in everyone's best interest.
Now, a movie project is different from a series. It is not like they can use fan-response to introduce new characters or anything halfway through (like it is claimed happened in GSD), animation would be expected to be brand new and not the constant recycles that the two previous SEED incarnations saw. Furthermore, they should have the budget to magage that. It is the first Gundam Movie in 15 years, for crying out loud!! It's supposed to be a big deal. Maybe doing this will not be beyond Fukuda's capability. If he pulls it off he might even get another shot at a Gundam Series or OVA. Maybe. It is in his best interest to do it well.
Now given his constant "homages" to the older installments of the franchise (namely UC stuff) one of the concerns of a guy in the ANN forum seems pretty accurate. Hopefully this won't be a ripoff of Char's Counterattack, although that is unlikely because no character could conceibably play Char's part in the CE continuity.
And I sure hope that the movie doesnt't turn into "flashback time" either. _________________

if they are going to include ANY flashbacks in a 2 hr movie, I am going to be VERY PISSED. How can they even think of using stock footage when there's only 2 hrs of animation?!
On the other hand, better a 2 hr movie than another 50 episode sequel which might suck even more than Destiny (if the movie is a sequel, that is). |

If I see even ONE clip of reused footage... I'll I'll.... well I'll be really angry
Anyways it'll be interesting to see whether they do a good job of this. |

I'll have to at least look at the plot to decide whether I would watch it or not ... *joins the prayer for the movie to be good* |

I'm being optimistic here when I say that I believe the movie is not going to crash and burn like GSD did. After a long and treacherous run with GSD, I believe Fukada learned his lesson with the poison apple baskets, anthrax mail, and attempted car bombings. He has a clean slate to get his act together and make a clear cut, eye pleaser right now. Basically all I'm saying is with all the pressure on him, i doubt he has the room to screw up.
I as well will pray for success, but I pray more for the life of Fukada becauseI think this movie will determine his life-expectancy!
PS: there most likely will be flashbacks for reference, but they might be like those 2 second images that just pop up. Who knows. For now all we can do is anticipate the moviel. |
