I really want to get a Photosop package, but there seem to be so many! I have heard a lot about Photoshop CS, and that it is a very good program, but very hard to use for the non- professional user. Also, i have heard Photoshop 6.0 is good. Some other art programs I have heard of: Project Dogwaffle, and the Manga artists program.
So if anyone can give me opinions on some good art programs, and about Photoshop, it would be a lot of help~ thanks Wink

Hmm... I'm still learning CG myself, and I never used any manga programs. However, Photoshop is a great program, lots of affects and stuff... and for more fluid coloring and blending I would recommend Painter programs (like Painter 7).

But for beginners I would suggest using Open Canvas because its free and easier to use. Just to see what kind of style you would like.

PS 7 > PS 6
Photoshop isnt really that hard to use as long as you learn the fundamentals. At first i thought it was really confusing also, but once i learned what the tools did and how to implement them into the drawing. You can start to build on your own ideas and concepts. I reconmend learning how to color in PS before learning how to CG with it. You also shouldn't try to learn too many things at once. Either try to learn PS or Manga Studio but not both of them at once, itll drive you nuts!

BTW Illustrator is the devil! Its pen tool is soooooo confusing ;_;

Yeah, Illustrator's pen tool is whacky, but its funny too. Like when you push one dot, it completely twists and your like O___O HOLY SHYT WHAT'D I DO?!

But it makes really nice solid outlines especially for drawings.

oooh, I remember using Illustrator for school project. Couldn't get te pen tool down at all! >__> but I can use teh Pen tool in PS thoough Razz If it's the same type of pen then now I am able to sue it Cool
a big thing to know about Ps, a lot of selecting tools. Magic wand, Lasso tool, these are very useful in coloring or editing a sketch. i think. ^^

I only used PS6 and 7, Never tried CS.
I like 6, I only tried 7 a little though.

I am currently learning PT 9.

I suggest PS 6. though its a bit old but I think its sufficient enough for me.

I have a bunch of different programs that I use to do stuff...here's a bit about each.

yeah PS CS or CS2 are really difficult to use if youre just starting out, but once you learn how to use them they offer by far the most possiblities. Also when you buy CS or CS2 it comes with the full Suite of Adobe programs including Illustraitor wich is also incredibly useful for doing graphics and hard to learn.

And yeah, somone mentioned that PS7 is better than PS6 which is true. PS7 is my favorite non CS2 version of the program.

If you want a much more user friendly program I would recommend Corel Paint Shop Pro. You can still do a ton with it...almost as much as CS and its 100 times easier to figure out. not only that but if you learn it you'll be abel to pick up CS much faster if you ever switch. if youre going to get it free over Kazaa or something i would recommend PsP7 because it's the best older version. Otherwise I would go for PsP X which is the latest version and has the coolest features. And if you go the Corel route then oyu could get Corel Painter to take the place of Adobe illustraitor.

anyway...for me I use PsP X unless I cant get what I want done with it, and I also use my drawpad and painter alot for tracing to my comp and coloring. I use CS2 when i need to get the few effects you cant with PsP, and illustraitor when i want to do any line work or vectoring.

The basic functions of Photoshop are quite easy to pick up, but it's when the advanced special effects come in that things get a little harder. One may think one knows a lot about Photoshop (hotkeys, functions etc...) but if you pick up a Tutorial book and don't know how to do 60% of the stuff there, then I guess there's still a lot of things to learn Very Happy

Well, is not to dificult, I use Macromedia software, when I work for publish something in the web, cause is more easy work with that software, dreamweaver is the more powerfull website development tool i know jet¡¡¡, fireworks is for customize the images you use in the web, and flash is a powerfull tool if you lear to use, is so easy draw in flash, sometimes I made few artworks there, for example: you can use layers then you can visualize a sketch with a lot of hair styles, you can easy mede symbols with parts of the human body to get idea to some positions, but the problem with flash is with the export resolution, is poor, you can improved with fireworks but is not enough, then flash is good for web animation, the 3 tools you told from macromedia, can be usefull to your web design.
Ah¡¡¡, Photo Shop CS2, that is other thing, I have CS, I use it between 4 at 6 hour per day, and I can tell you is the most powerfull tool you can get for graphics development, well is a lot of tutorials in internet, you can use google or other search engine, but I give to you a usefull link:

www.onikimono.com/links

There you can get started to use photoshop in manga artwork, the diference is the other tool make a lot of automatic functions, in photoshop you must to set a lot of things manually, but the end work is amazing, not only in photo editing and color artwork, also in manga, you use brushes of tones, then you make the manga style, the only way you can learn to use is use it¡¡¡ go and watch the link, OK¡¡¡

If you want see my profile and mail me if you have specific questions about photo shop, you are welcome¡¡¡

But if you don't want to be complicated, the I use photoshop to sketching and coloring covers, but from the inside of the manga I use Manga STudio 3 debut, cause is easy and make the work for me fast.

First try to familiarize to the program after ask me specific topics¡¡¡

bye¡¡¡¡
