It really depends on where you live. Some supermarkets near me do sell durians over here in Canada. I'm pretty sure it doesn't grow in Canada, so they have to import it. And all the ones they sell near me are frozen, which reduces some of its taste. The fresh ones are the best, but then again, frozen ones are the next best thing if you can't buy fresh ones.
Unless I'm wrong, durians grow in the Malaysian/Indonesian area, so most people who live there are used to the taste and smell (could be wrong). Some like it, some don't. However, if you aren't from the region, I think the best way to describe it would be that it's an 'acquired taste'. As said before, it gives off a really strong smell, which can last for days. And I think that's one of the reasons why it isn't eaten alot out of that region. Most, if not all people have a problem with bad breathe and durians will leave you with bad breathe for days. |

Boo, now you're evil. I'm drooling now.... Must..contain...self...Haven't had one in a few years. Guess I have to go buy some mangoes to appease the appetite now.
And lemons aren't so bad. If you can stand biting into a lemon, it just means you can tolerate the not so good food friends and family test their skills on. |

I'm pretty sure the stores near me have sold it by weight. Most fruits, if not all are sold by the weight here. If yours sold at a static price per durian, then you must've been very lucky all these years. Orchard, you say.....does that mean you get free durian?....now I'm jealous.
I've never tried blueberries. I don't have many blueberries, strawberries..; those types of food. I'm sure if you get those food onto your clothes, you can't wash it off. And since I often make a mess with juicy fruits, I would've ruined quite a bit of clothes. So that's why I don't often have them. |

I had to put "other" because "none" wasn't a choice. For some reason, I cannot digest fruits or vegetables, so I'm very limited in what I can take. Asked my doctor what the deal was and he said "some people just don't like veggies." Kinda a brush-off statement, but I'm sure there's some validity to it. _________________

oh god...everytime somebody mentioned a different fruit...i'll start salivating....orange, lemons, durian, lychees, strawberries...i like all!!!
and yes my aunty does own an orchard...we will usually go there and steal some of her fruit(we didnt actually steal since she begged us to steal it because there's just too many) but then we(my family and i) will still feels unsatisfied and goes out to buy our own durians...and they sell it in bulk(4 to 5 pieces) about $10...how cheap is that!!!!
but the best part i like the most about durians is that when they come in season...u can see the durians along the highway still hanging from the tree and waiting it's time to fall down and my mother will go like..."oh....durians...let's stop and buy" and my father will be like..."oh, no" but in the end...he'll eat more than she does...and there we are...one big happy family eating a durian by the highway roadside...
oh...god...i need to stop
my keyboard is flooded with saliva...have to find something to wipe it dry.... _________________ (*^.^)Yami(^.^*) |
