I sorta stumbled upon this while watching CNN headline news but apparantly there's a new hyped up anime (?) in the works in Japan. I went to the site, but since I don't know how to read Japanese, I'm kinda clueless as to what it is and when it's coming out. Here's the website if anyone's knows what's up with it.

It appears to be a remake of Shirow's Appleseed but now in 3D computer graphics. It is supposed to be a movie released on 17 April 2004.
Graphically it looks amazing. |

| I watched the preview to this movie and the 3D characters with a "anime" feel to them look a bit tacky. |

That is my issue with the movie to a T.
The CG does look very impressive but I am very interested to see how the emotions are handled within a 3D world. If they can get them done right then more power to them. If not it will be another telling issue w/ 3D graphics.
On the other hand though everything else that isn't human lends itself quite well to the medium. That and where Inoccence was the more thought-provoking Shirow work Appleseed looks to be the "action" side of his works.
Give-and-take I guess. hopefully in the end it turns into a good show.
As for the story I heard in an interview with the director @ Anime Expo that Shirow wanted to do a complete re-telling of the story where as the director was against changing things. In the end they found a happy medium so there should be new elements it is just a matter of how big the changes are I suppose. |
