a sword is a weapon to kill...
even though i know their dark deep scret...im still attracted to it...am i turning into a psycho-killer? atleast...it's better than psycho-rapist!!! _________________ (*^.^)Yami(^.^*)
dont you think some other weapons are better or cooler than katana??
Yes, I agree..but I love all of 'em. Perhaps the katana exudes elegance, beauty, ..basically whatever i see in my favourite girl I see it in the katana.
Quote:
I would have to say an Easterner would win. This is of course not counting fencing, as that would be impossible to decide. It is a well known fact that in europe, the majority of the swords were made of very impure metals. This was not an option in Japan, seeing as the very little metal there was was very pure. As well as that, most midevil swords were simply cast into a shape, not layered with different types of metal, like a katana. This makes it a possiblility that katanas being razor sharp, could actually destroy their european opponents weapons putting the technique aside.
Also, due to it's weight a european sword would be much slower than a katana as well as the fact that japanese sword styles are faster to begin with. The european would be carved to bits.
And...about the Eastener winning the fight, I think its the other way around. If I'm not mistaken, a samurai's suit is made up mostly of bamboo. His opponent however, is clad in steel, iron...or anything that's better than bamboo. However,...the Japanese sword as we all know, have undergone better manufacturing processes which translates to better performance if compared to his opponent's sword.
But,..like you said, the opponent's sword is much heavier and cumbersome but this could actually be an advantage. Momentum = mass x velocity. Just swing it fast and you'll smash through him. This however, also depends on the weapon's sharpness and hardness relative to the armor upon contact. Since its bamboo,...I think it isn't good enough to protect the wearer. If say, he has something harder to protect him,..he may even suffer from bone fratures to organ damages as a result of blunt trauma. Unfortunately, this goes the same for the western armoured swordsman - blunt trauma.
That is why, I kinda like the war hammer!..(hehe..) Anyway,..conclusion:
The katana's razor sharp blades glances off the westerner's armor plates.
The western sword, with all its weight sinks into the Jap.'s armor, instantly bringing him down to the ground.
One last opinion: Western fighting styles, like fencing is more of thrusting...Japanese samurai-like sword fights are more on slashing, hence Battousai the Slasher from Samurai X and the actual person in Japan.
