| Best way to learn japanese is to buy self-teaching books, go to japanese classes where there is a japanese tutor or go live in japan. |

| I lived in japan for a while. Was actually born there. Anime doesn't really help...you pick up a few catch phrases and some vocab, but that's not going to help you read or write it. Not to mention grammar. In years since living in Japan I hardly find Japanese computer programs helpful..most the time I'll just see an object or word and sort of go "ah HA! now I remember" when if someone asked me on the street I'd just blink at them. I'd say if you really want to learn take classes get and instructor and force yourself to use it (or go to japan where you'd have to) |

Heh, I've been trying to pick up a little Japanese by watching tons of anime, but, yeah, it's pretty hard and sometimes misleading. I am getting a little, though, cuz i use logical deduction from subtitle to subtitle to figure out if that's what they're actually saying...cuz sometimes subtitlers will use the context of the situation to fill in the blanks, but the actual words may be something different entirely, and occasionally there's a better translation if you really think about it. You just gotta be smart about it....
Hah, but i need some reason lessons if i want to get more than a few catchphrases and a nominal vocabulary. Darn you Nihongo and your different syntax, i swear if the syntax weren't so tipsy (well, compared to English, anyway) i could figure it out much more easily....*grumbles* |

i belive that to learn jap you can't just go to japan and learn it when your ther :p, to learn this language you need (this is just my opinion)
- a few years of dedicated sefstudie to get things strait
- or take classes for like a year and dedicate yourself to studie hard at home
- and then you you sould go to japan and get someone that speaks english and hang out with him alot (speaking jap but if you don't know somthing so he can explain in english) |

| I think environment matters, so probably if I were to study Japanese, I'd go to Japan and study there, hehe. |
