I think this guy wants to learn Japanese by himself.. like me. So unless I'm mistaken Japanese classes aren't really an option (yet). The best place to start would be something like a "Learn Japanese in 2 weeks" or "Basic Japanese for Everyday Life" type of book. Cheesy and inadequate (sometimes even inadequate), yes, but they do get you acquainted with the basics. _________________ Silly yellow froggy.. |

The easiest way to learn by watching anime is to learn the basic rules about how to form a sentence, or overall once you get down the grammar then you can just watch anime and learn atleast that's what I'm doing and learning cause before you can tell a verb from a adjective and don't understand any of the sentence construction in japanese it's really not gonna work, or I think so |

| I've watching anime for a year and a half and I still don't know much. Take it from me that your chance would significantly improve if you learn the basics of sentence structure. If I had studied that, I might have been able to string some phrases together by now. |

| First of all, anime japanese is not real conversational japanese (real people speak much faster). And if you plan learning by yourself, get a full year of japane at your college, and then get a language textbook (the "genki" series seems to be the most widely used one today) |

I've tried to learn Japanese by watching anime and I'm making some progress. Although I think Japanese lessons would help A LOT. _________________ Reality is wrong.

| Actually you get pretty decent if you live in Japan for 3 years and actually interact with the people, not just your fellow foreigners |
