I think some manga get better as they go. Naruto for instance seems to be getting better with each chapters now.

A lot of mangaka have a problem with being way too whimsical in their creative approach. Dragon Ball was supposed to be an adaptation of Journey to the West and look what that turned into after 100 whimsical complete series retoolings with the newest Zs. I was done after maybe the first 1/4 of the original series.
After you read something like Akira, it's hard to understand how someone can't stick to high concept and give the story an overall progression with eventual summation.
Even Tezuka, the God of Manga, had many of these problems with Astro Boy considering how many times he readapted it and times when he changed pages for republished stories. I think that was more a problem with perfectionism though.
So all in all, I guess if a mangaka is too lazy or too thoughtful the series can suffer.

What I don't really like about long manga is that sometime I lost track of where I am in the story line. And I'd be really mad if the ending is crappy since I've spent a lot of time reading the whole story Sad

Those anime and mangas are nothing....

The longest running anime in the history is Sazae-San, it got 1500+ ep. and I m pretty sure it is still running Shocked (it is base on a comic)

So, those newbie artists can draw as many volume as they like and making them in to anime, but they can never catch up Twisted Evil

Well, it's tough to have all the story in a manga series made into anime.

well.. just look at berserk.. it`s a real flow of up and downs regarding the story quality..

or ie. hajime no ippo.. it`s the same.. they all suffer from lack of ideas and so on for some time but there are always times when these things improve again..

I dunno... I really agree that a lot of comics become so boring after that series have been going on for a while.... Such as Conan, Yugi Oh etc... But I still think that many comics can still keep the story interesting, even it has been so long!

Eg. from my opinion:

-Angel Santually(20vols): It is still very interesting and I can't stop reading it!

-X/1999(17vols): I can't get enough of that, I so want to know what is going to happen next

-Hell Teacher Nube(31vol): I just so enjoying reading from chapter to chapter, and after 31 vols I still can't get enough of it!!!

-Get Backers(20+ vol): Very interesting with twists and actions!!!

etc... Very Happy

i agree that manga's their impact when the ideas and stories are dragged on however some people prefer that since they love the character like
GTO i mean cmon Onizuka was a great character and im just sad that his story ends at 25 volumes and yes i know therez bad company and shounen ai gumi. Razz

I agree with Yayu. GTO wasn't really about what happens in the school as much as it is to see the developement of an awesome character. I mena if you look at Tohru's work from Bad Compandy to GTO, how much has Onizuka evolved? Hell in the other 2 comics he was kind of a back up character to Ryuji, in GTO he's the star. Hajime no Ippo's mangaka does a great job at prolonging a fight to make it intense. I mean sometimes it takes a whole tank just to see a fight pan through, but it's intense the whole time. It's only when the matches are over and the characters have to rest is when Ippo slows down. I don't know if I can ever get tired of Yakitate Japan though. I mean that series is so random that it doesn't really get boring, even though the do the same thing, over and over again.

The reason is because(I read it from an Anime magazine) some event in the story really happened even thought not 100% similar, but it really disturbed many readers and CLAMP themself too, so they decided to stop the series for a while...(Hope they will finished it someday)
