This may sound stupid and I never bothered to bring it up before but its ticking me off now.

Initially like around adobe premiere 5 or 6 probably 6 but anyway I could load up avis compressed from divx xvid etc. and edit them straight out. Now with adobe premiere pro and 7 I believe, it doesnt seem to let me do that, itll load the file but you cant edit it properly, it doesnt show in the monitor (a black screen just shows up) initially I let it slide because working with uncompressed files worked out better, but now for some tiny editing I have to decompress a file and work with it and its a pain in the arse, does anyone have this problem with the later adobe premieres or is it just me? or does anyone know a workaround for this problem

I'd sure like to know a workaround on this one too. Not that I use Adobe Premiere, but I think the solution to this problem would also solve my problem with Windows Movie Maker 2. From my previous install of Windows XP, WMM2 was able to load any DivX/XviD file. But after adding in a few pre-chopped up clips into the timeline section, the application would crash. I ended up uncompressing the vid just like you were doing. I, too, don't like to do this hassle just to convert my music videos to streaming wmv's.

I think the problem lies on the codecs you're using. Before my previous of the previous install of WinXP(lol), WMM2 was working fine with a complete K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. With my previous install, I only had ffdshow and it would crash after having trouble caching up a certain number of clips. Therefore, I think it has to do with codecs, though, I don't know which ones you exactly need. I hope this comment would help you somehow. ^_^;

yeah seems you were right in a way. The codecs I was using (koepi xvid etc) worked, but premiere didnt like them for decoding I guess? I installed the divx codec (bleh and set a bat file to turn it on when I use premiere and off when I close out) and premiere can load up all the avis now (provided it takes a while to load them but it finally works now. So I guess the workaround solution would be to install that oh so crappy divx codec, if you find a better workaround Id like to know though ^^.
