yeah, i think i will definately keep the Seagate one since that brand seems to be the most trusted among peers...since i got mixed reviews on the Western Digital and the Maxtor, i guess i'll choose the maxtor since it's only 50 dollars.

well if you really want to go cheap and get a really good drive out of it, Id buy an internal sata drive (you can pick up a 500gig for only 200 now and 320 for 100 etc.) and buy an external enclosure, they arent hard at all to setup, its just a matter of plugging power in and another cable, and the external enclosures range from 15 dollars to 60 for new generation closures.. and if youre asking which 500 for 200 its a seagate with the perpendicular spin

1st choice would be western digital. then seagate
but they tend to be expensive.
maxtor is cheaper and are thought of lower quality compared to the above 2. _________________ Follow Haruhi-ism. If u don't, heads will roll!

External HDDs should come with an Installation CD I think.
Have you tried using the CD that came with your External HDD?
The only thing I liked about Western Digital's HDDs is that it runs on 10000rpm (i think some of them...not all). _________________

I'm not sure since AFTER I have lost my data on my previous HDD...
I just let it go.
but I'm pretty sure that there are some apps there that can recover lost data.

Try to shut down your PC and then plug your external HDD before booting up your PC. See whether it can be detected when Windows loaded. _________________

I tried plugging everything in before i boot up my computer but nothing came up either...and when i pulled it off and plug it in again, the "USB device not recognized" message popped up again.
Also, Raiden mentioned that there's a possible recovery software...is there a direct link to it?? |

Its possible that it is the external enclosures fault not the hard drive. When you plug it in does it say that the USB device has malfunctioned? If so you could take your hd out and put it into another external enclosur or even your comptuer if you have room and see if it works. There are different ways a hd could break also, if you hear a grinding noise that is not good news. If the external enclosure was working and it turns out your hd is corrupt you could use a program called Spinrite 6 to try and save it as a last resort. It takes a loooong time, but its pretty effective.[/b]

now i'm really confused as what is going on...i went home and plugged the problematic HD into my old computer instead of my laptop and it worked!! I then plugged one of my other hard drives into my laptop and it worked...but when i plugged THE NEW HARD DRIVE INTO MY OLD COMPUTER, THE WARNING MESSAGE POPPED UP AGAIN!? Now, i can't seem to use two devices that requires usb ports anymore, which i can do before! Now when i plug my dvd-burner into my old computer when one of the hard drives is plugged in, the warning message will come up again!
