Feel free to argue about them too, cause crappy guitarplay isn't accepted.
My personal favourites would be Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria, John Petrucci from Dream Theater, and Snah from Motorpsycho. |

The person I consider the greatest guitarist is John Petrucci (from Dream Theater). I'm not a guitarist so I can't say much about his technical skills, but goddamn the guy can play some kickass face-melting solos >.<
Many would say that Jimi Hendrix is the greatest because he had a massive influence on music. |

Joe Satriani
John Petrucci
Steve Vai
Tony (cant remember last name, he's back up guitar for Steve Vai)
Yngwie Malmsteen
Hendrix
Pantera
Megadeth
All these guys revolutionized guitar in their respective genres. But I personally think the greatest guitarist in the world is Joe Satriani. He has tons of heart, and he is so good that he has taught many famous guitarists how to play in the first place. And his sound is constantly changing. His creativity with the guitar is amazing. I swear to god in his song "War" at the end it he makes his guitar sing. No exaggeration. It sounds like an arab woman singing. Wow.
