Posted: Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:46 am Post subject: Is the end near for GC, XBOX and PS2?
When the graphics of PS3 and XBOX 360 is shown in last year's E3(I think), the graphics of PS2, XBOX and GC are more less and less attractive to me. Even the ported PS2 XBOX games like King Kong and Need For Speed Most Wanted is inferior compared to XBOX 360. And even Burnout Revenge, even though its a direct port in XBOX and PS2.
Which means it will change our thoughts about our gameplay regarding these consoles. Its simple, BETTER GRAPHICS MEANS MORE FUN GAMEPLAY. I think this is the time that the current system stop producing games on 2007. Its hard to admit, especially since we have good times to share with this consoles, but maybe we must moved on to the next gen consoles already...
This is the dusk year for this consoles, we've already seen the climax in 2005 with great titles like(atleast for the PS2) like Devil May Cry 3, God of War, Psychonauts and Shadow of the Colossus. We've almost seen the conclusion this year with Kingdom Hearts 2 and Suikoden V, and upcoming anticipated games like Final fantasy 12, Xenosaga 3 and Persona 3. And for me, the XBOX, GC and PS2 can never been improved other than that. Its over, these consoles were on its limit.
Its sad, my PS2 already broken, but its not worth to fix it anymore. Since I'm more anticipating on what games the PS3 and Wii will released this year, and I'm waiting for the XBOX 360 for another price cut.
It feels like the transition from PSX to PS2 again, wasnt it? You're afraid to lose interest in your PS2s BUT YOU WILL BE when PS3 will release this November!
No, you're too optimistic about the next-gen consoles. The way your post looks is saying "hey, the great games i've played before are not great any more because the videos of PS3 and Xbox360 I saw in E3 are way even better, and that means the game play is better, so companies should stop producing games next year." Differences of your comparison of the next-gen consoles with transition from PSX to PS2 is just way too big. PS2 was launched at about the same price the PSX did on its first launch while this year, the PS3 will cost around $300-400 more. NOT EVERYONE can afford this system right away. Good games that I'm anticipating next year are: Rogue Galaxy (US), Cowboy Bebop, and God of War II. There are probably more great ones out there that I still don't know about... Why stop the production? Great games are still great.
Are the people who bought Xbox360 having the same great experiences they did when they bought Xbox? Is the number of owners even good enough to back-up on your previous answer? Did you write this post because your PS2 broke?
xbox came out late in the competition and ended earlier in the competition. so xbox is out of there.
ps2 is still hanging on until ff12 comes out.
gamecube is bassically nowhere to be found =/ _________________ [img:455:135:812bc51f9a]http://www3.telus.net/Hiroshirou/Forums/sig/1.jpg[/img:812bc51f9a]

Better graphics doesn't really mean more fun gameplay. I mean it's nice to see eye candy that's coming out for next-gen, but I assure that nothing can really beat the first sensation you got when you played Final Fantasy 1. I mean even to this day the beautiful graphics from Shadow Of The Colossus doesn't really beat the fun game play of Ico.
PS2 isn't down and out yet. I think that although Kingdom Hearts 2 did fantastic in sales, it will meet a successor. Hands down, Yakuza for the PS2 is going to raise A LOT of eyebrows and it's going to show that although next-gen is around the corner the PS2 still has what it takes to hold up its own end. _________________ PM some funny pick-up lines please >

graphics ain't everything.
it has to appaeal to the gamers first, or make a better game that uses the full potenial of the system. Heck even old games are still being played on some systems like Mario64 and other legendary games on consoles.
how does systems REALLY die? when they get stepped on or dropped?
Stored in the closet for years? NO. _________________ PS3 Trophies
I know there will be a response like this. Thats what I also feel when I've seen the PS2 and their games in their release on 2001. (technically, its on 2000, but you cant release a console all over the world at the same time you know). And I'm still clinging on my PSX and saying that my PSX still have good games. Oh am I wrong... The good games on my PSX are declining when the PS2 are starting to produced the only reason why you're still playing the PSX was because you cant afford a PS2 yet, and there's still glitches with the PS2 in their production.
But at last, we can already afford a PS2 in 2003, its 2 years wait, but its worth it. Because of the price cut.
The ones who respond GRAPHICS ISNT EVERYTHING ARE LYING TO THEMSELVES and still clinging to their PSX and Nintendo 64 whining and feeling sad that their Legend of Zelda, Perfect Dark and Mario 64 even their Final Fantasy have no appeal to them anymore.
The truth to be told, GRAPHICS IS NOT THE ONLY THING, ITS EVERYHTING when comes to video games. The gameplay will be bad if without a GREAT GRAPHICS to support it.
So, gamers out there who still wants a hold of their PS2 games, you must play those great games right now before you will have lost appeal to them. The said lost appeal with GC, XBOX and PS2 will happen in 2008. Since 2007 after all, is the dusk year for GC, PS2 and XBOX. I'm more early than you that's all...
Graphics may be nice, but a good game should be seen more than that. =/ Its like saying why buy a Gameboy Advanced, or a PSP, or a DS? Their graphics can't match up with the larger systems. We buy it because they have good games, duh!
I still have my Playstation, and my SNES. I mean come on, Secret of Mana on the SNES ROCKS And is STILL my favorite game of all time. There's still the original mario kart that i play to have fun, and Pocky and Rocky. FFVI, FFIX and FFT are still great games that I play on my PSX.
Qualities of games should not be judged by the consoles nor the graphics. =/ It should be seen for everything else. Besides, I just recently got my PS2, and I dont plan to jump towards PS3 until I get the best outta the console I got. There's still a ton of great games I want to and need to play.
Why even played on Nintendo DS and GBA if most of them have 2-d graphics with 2-d gameplay and most of them are platformers and 2-d RPGs and beat'em-ups. DUH! It's not because they have good games. It's because of pick and play factor, most people played these games are people who always on the run like believe it or not, businessmen! They always seems on the go...
I didnt include the PSP here because of PSP actually have a different formula than other handhelds. Its like a handheld PS2 or something. there's even GTA: Liberty Stories there months before the release of Liberty Stories in the PS2.

the nextgen consoles are overhyped. except for the Wii, which is gonna be badass; the nexgen offers little to nothing new besides new hardware capabilities and better graphics.
im gonna wait about 2 years before i get the P3, only b/c by then the price would have dropped from $699 _________________ Shepherd the lost sheep

the new stuff looks nice but the price is too crazy... I think i'll stick for my current generation stuff as long as there are some quality games for them. Such as Final Fantasy XII, sure that will keep me busy for awhile.

I think its good for the next-gen to come, the end maybe for new games, but the old ones will go low on price, so Its good in its own way. I have an Atari 800xl and still playing with the cassetes. So why 'the end'?
Well I just hope that PS2, XBOX and the GC will end their career with a bang before the next gen consoles will take over.
BELIEVE ME, Its 2008 BEFORE THE END!
But there will be more great games on this generation before that. I HOPE! Since I think Sony, Nintendo and M$ will clash their new generation consoles in 2007.
i don't know... but i think that after the release of ps3 and wii... the ald gen consoles will being forgoten.. just as gba by now... it's sure that thjere are still game coming up but... sony and nintendo are by now just interested iun their new consoles... so i think that ps2 and game cube have just 5 o 6 moths of live...
and the end of the game cube will be zelda twilight princes... THAT'S FOR SURE!!!!!

Even though the next generation consoles are coming out, this does not mean the end for gamecube, ps2 and xbox. Simply because games have better graphics doen't mean they are better. There are great games with poor graphics. For me, gameplay is what realy matters. Take Zelda the windwakes, the graphics, in my opion, were really ppor, but gameplay was exellent. Yes, the next generation consolea are coming out, and i do look foward to buying and playing them, but that doen't mean I'll stop playing my xbox, ps2 and gamecube.
