Here's the problem:
The navigate menu is always grayed out (i can't use it). It's the menu where i should be able to change subtitles or audio. No matter what kind of file i play mkv, ogm etc. it's always grayed out, meaning i can only listen to the primary audio track and can't access the subtitles at all.
I have the latest version of mpc and cccp downloaded from the official source. |

I don't know anything about CCCP. I think it comes with ffdshow. If it does, when you installed CCCP, did it ask you which codecs to be supported or did you just keep on clicking on the "Next" button?
I don't know what DirectX version you're using but try this once you're able to view your videos: View > Options > Playback > Output. Then under the DirectShow Video section choose VMR7 (or VMR9 if you have DirectX 9 installed and would like to use that).
If that doesn't work, you may hafta download and install DirectVobSub. |

I did as you suggested and there is some improvement, now i can see the subtitles, but only the default ones the player loads on it's own, but still no navigate menu. If the file has more than one subtitle option i can't access it or change the audio track.
This is getting quite frustrating.
edit:
Oh, and cccp has DirectVobSub. |

If you watch OGM and MKV on MPC, the DirectVobSub icon should appear in your system tray. It is in the form of a green arrow at the bottom right of your taskbar. Try to right-click the icon and change your audio and subtitles options there. _________________

Ok, thanks for everyone's help but nothing you said so far is working.
I'll just ask a simple question and hope that someone answers it:
How do you play a video file in MPC and load a secondary subtitle and audio track, already contained in the file?
Thank you. |

Using the Navigate Menu or with the DirectVobsub icon in the ststem tray, none of which work for you.
Now, I'm not as good as Thugangel here, but this could work: try re-installing the cccp and MPC, and make sure you include the ffdshow in the installation. Then double check to make sure that the DirectVobSub and DirectX you have are the latest versions.
It could have been that a bug in the installation of the MPC resulted in it having limited functionality. This happened to me once with another program, but what fixed it was to install a new copy of it, not merely updating it to a new version. If you do everything as if from scratch again it may work. _________________

I have tried reinstalling and redownloading everything several times - no result.
The only option left is to delete the damn thing and switch to another player, this is by far the most useless player i have ever come across, why people praise it as the ultimate player is something i can't understand.
Anyway just so you know ffdshow is included in cccp, and MPC is also included in the cccp installation.
The question in my previous post is still there if anyone can answer it.

Funny, coz I don't understand why people keep recommending CCCP either when a lot of people complain about it. I guess it's one of those things where you can get lucky. So good luck in switching players since MPC isn't for you and you also have my regards on finding one that you'll be happy with.
I just found out that CCCP made the "Audio" and "Subtitle" submenus in MPC useless by relying on Haali's Splitter. This may be the main solution to your problem. Go see their FAQ/Wiki.
I've also hoped that you followed their installation instruction. But you're probably fine without it. Wish you luck. |
