Hail and good tidings, A-S!
Found this site when I was fervently searching for the second half of the First Phase o' Gantz. Been here about a week or so and I'll have to admit I love it. Lotsa discussion about anything there could be a discussion on. Lotsa friendly people.
Anyway, I s'pose this is an introduction. I'm a 17 year old high school senior dude from Montana. Real name's Stephen (with a "v" sound, damnit) if you really wanna call me that. Stryker Blue sounds cooler, though.
Started watchin' anime back in middle school on Toonami, but started my anime collection 'bout frosh year o' high school. As of now, I have over $1600 worth of anime, which also translates to being just short of eight straight days of sitting on a futon glued to the tube. I think that makes me an otaku--the good kind, that is. Well, if there is a good kind. Americans like to say that being otaku is a positive thing, but I've read that it's a rather negative connotation in Japan.
Other than anime, I hang with me mates 'n' do crazy shite a lot of the time. That or go to school, which is turning out to be pretty fun. Started the 30th of August. In AP Gov't, AP English, Calculus, Physics, second year of Computer Science, and I'm doing an independant Senior Project that will include me programming my own RogueLike. So basically I'm gonna have the most hectic school year of all time.
After I graduate I'll be heading to Montana State University to major in Japanese and potentially minor in either Computer Science or Arabic. I really wanna be a video game programmer, but the classes at MSU are more geared toward engineering rather than gaming.
After college I'll be moving to Japan. In fact, I want to do a year or two of college in Japan if I can. That'd be epic. I want to move to Japan because, I guess, that America pisses me off. Rather, conservatives do. Hate Big Business. Oh, and that Japan actually has its own culture. America, to use the old cliche, is a melting pot of cultures. It's only unique because it has no identity, really.
I hate most organized religion. Mainly monotheistic religions, actually. Mostly because it pisses me off that religion and politics are so closely linked to one another. I really don't like prude-arse Catholic parents dictating how I, a very much God-hating man, should live my life through the school district, through the city gov't, state gov't, federal gov't, etc.
I'm not an atheist. Agnostic, I'd say. I kinda believe in the Shinto system in which everything has a kami or spirit within it, and that those spirits are what we become once our bodies die. I actually believed in that system before I knew what Shinto was or had even heard the word "Shinto."
I'd like to say I'm a very philosophical person without sounding too big-headed. A friend of mind that's going to study philosophy in college and I frequently just lay out on the roof of a building (doesn't matter which building) and talk about the universe, our lives, why things are, so on and so forth.
I do a lot of parkour when the weather permits. Parkour was started in France, and is basically the art of movement; other people call it freerunning. I'm not as insane as to do wall flips and whatnot, but I've been known to jump a seven foot gap between two five-story buildings before. Nothin' dangerous or anything.
I listen to a lot of techno, a lot of DnB. Love the Champloo soundtracks, but I hate American rap/hip-hop/whatever-the-taff-you-wanna-call-it. I'm by no means racist (or sexist for that matter) but since I live in a state where there's probably less than 1% of the total population that are African-American, I hear a lot of racist jokes/comments around school.
Oh, and Digression is my friend most of the time, as you might have noticed.
And that's about it. Dunno if this is what an introductory thread is s'posed to be like or not, since this is the first forum I've ever joined.
Ah, and another thing. Ya, I call my friends "mates" and I use "me" instead of "my" a lot of the time--and use other foreign terms and whatnot a lot--but I was born and raised in this sleepy town. It's just habit to type like I do at this point, and I don't see meself changin' down the road. _________________ [IMG:403:130:3eda1eb6d9]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/strykersig.jpg[/img:3eda1eb6d9]

I started watching anime in college 3 years ago (points to signature banner) and I'm up to about $3, 500 worth of anime. Most of it is still in the plastic wrapping... now that I have fansubs and anime on-demand to keep me company, I don't get around to my DVDs that much. But I suspect once the winter starts again and the snow begins to fall, I'll be couped up with some nice warm anime to get me through the season.

My goodness stryker you type alot about yourself if I ever made a intro thread then I wouldnt even know where to start in describing myself. I would probably have a one liner, but I'll stretch it out so xeno wont cry and punish me!

Agreed, and most of the more interesting threads are still active..^^

I'm 14 (and a half...xD), M, and currently living in Canada..^^...quite cool here...feel free to add me on MSN..xD

Americans like to say that being otaku is a positive thing, but I've read that it's a rather negative connotation in Japan.
I have forgotten when I started watching anime...but the first anime I actually remember watching was Ranma...xD....I did grow up in Taiwan, a couple thousand miles below Japan...so...there was a lot of anime on TV...still is...^^....
And...nope, I'm not an otaku...I've only ever completely watched MoHS, KnM, FMP! (all 3 seasons), FSN and Shuffle! ...quite a small list...xD....and small parts of others..
Other than anime, I hang with me mates 'n' do crazy shite a lot of the time. That or go to school, which is turning out to be pretty fun. Started the 30th of August. I take it you're in grade 12..^^..I'm in gr. 10 and it's pissing me off...xD...too many classes...
After I graduate I'll be heading to Montana State University to major in Japanese and potentially minor in either Computer Science or Arabic. I really wanna be a video game programmer, but the classes at MSU are more geared toward engineering rather than gaming.
No clue what I'll be doing...=P
After college I'll be moving to Japan. In fact, I want to do a year or two of college in Japan if I can. That'd be epic. I want to move to Japan because, I guess, that America pisses me off. Rather, conservatives do. Hate Big Business. Oh, and that Japan actually has its own culture. America, to use the old cliche, is a melting pot of cultures. o.o
so it's not just me who doesn't like America..^^
I hate most organized religion. Mainly monotheistic religions, actually. Mostly because it pisses me off that religion and politics are so closely linked to one another. I really don't like prude-arse Catholic parents dictating how I, a very much God-hating man, should live my life through the school district, through the city gov't, state gov't, federal gov't, etc.
see previous comment...just replace America with the 'God' crap...
I'm not an atheist. Agnostic, I'd say. I kinda believe in the Shinto system in which everything has a kami or spirit within it, and that those spirits are what we become once our bodies die. I actually believed in that system before I knew what Shinto was or had even heard the word "Shinto."
It's true that Kamis make more sense than Gods. But I still believe that everything is a 'God-type thing'.......so...a leaf counts...=P....
I'd like to say I'm a very philosophical person without sounding too big-headed. A friend of mind that's going to study philosophy in college and I frequently just lay out on the roof of a building (doesn't matter which building) and talk about the universe, our lives, why things are, so on and so forth.

Sounds fun!..xD
and...parkour? (I'll google it later..xD
I listen to anything..=P...but mostly Asian music..^^...
Oh, and Digression is my friend most of the time, as you might have noticed.

This is fine.....quite long, but a fun read..^^

Welcome to A-S! sounds like you like it already...so...^^

Yeah. Er. Sorry about that. At least now whoever reads this knows what to argue about with me.

Hah. Haha. That makes me feel happy inside. I've never had anyone say that I look older than I am. Does this mean that I am finally a young adult!? Banzai!

Well. No homework on the weekends, no girlfriend to hang out with, friends doin' somethin else. It only took me a good fifteen minutes to type up, anyway.

Saying that you're a philosophical thinker without any proof can lead to people calling you pompous. Since I do think philosophically a good majority of the time, I just thought it'd be a good thing to have in me intro. This way, if anyone wants to discuss what happens after death, Fate vs. personal choice, etc. they know that I'd be happy to engage in the conversation.

I wish I could pull that off, too. You must be some kinda diety, right? //worship
Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome, everyone that decided to post. I'm sure I'll be frequenting these hallowed halls for quite some time. _________________ [IMG:403:130:3eda1eb6d9]http://www.anime-source.com/upload/uploadFiles/strykersig.jpg[/img:3eda1eb6d9]

Oh, it was just something he said about Montana people, I wont say it cuz I don't know if you'll take it offensive or not...so I'll just keep my fingers away from the key board on that subject. ;P
