Yeah. Dunno the speed of the hard drive though. And as I suspected, Home Edition.. Those two things may be the reason of the "freeze"-ness. Also, try installing the latest Java Environment. It should help some on your surfing especially sites that uses Java.
Where does it exactly freeze anyway and under which browser? Or does it freeze on any application? |

The specification is good enough for your Windows XP Home. What Service Pack that you use for your XP? And "freezing" is extremely vague. Can explain in details what do you mean by that? What thing freezes? Your browser, your Windows, etc?

Just know your country's voltage and then adjust it accordingly before you plug in the cable into your power supply. Usually on the switch, there is a visible number on it. One should be "230" and another one is "110" or "120". Just adjust it according to the voltage in your country.
If you use 110 on 230 V power point, your power supply may be burnt and if you use 230 on 110 V power point, you will have unstable system with some of them can be rendered useless after frequent usage. So please know your country's voltage before doing anything. By default, they should have set the switch to individual country voltage, but it never hurts to be careful. _________________

i have service pack 2 on it. Also, correction on what i said before. I have Windows "MEDIA CENTER EDITION" not Home edition. By freezing i mean when i go on the internet and want to go to another page, another website, submit posts, anything that requires "loading" i guess? the window will go blank and white and if i try to bring my task bar up (i have it hidden) it will show the task bar but it will freeze there and if i try to load any other applications, it would just show the window of the application but everything else is blank and white...sorry, i'm really bad at describing it, hope you all can understand
Oh yeah, it also happens when I stay on one web page for a while and want to either go to another page or minimize it. |

Woops.
Well, I don't really know how well Media Centers behave. I think they're good from the reviews I've seen. So the only concern I have left would be your hard drive speed >.>; |

I got about 5 ways of doing this and actually even more.. but I'll only mention the ones that you may be interested in.
1) Listen to the hard drive's sound. If it sounds loud when you're trying to load something an it would take you a really really long time to finish the task, then you probably got a 4200rpm hard drive. A little bit faster than that would be 5400rpm. A normal modern desktop speed-like would be a 7200rpm where you hardly notice any lag at your actions at all.
But that's really vague and you wouldn't be able to tell without more details, huh?
2) Right click on My Computer> Properties > Device Manager in the hardware section (forgot which tab it was in) > then try to find your drive. It should be in something like IDE-Primary. Write down the model number and then google on it or go to its manufacturer's site.
3) During boot, enter to your BIOS, write down the model number of your hard drive and the the last part of section 2).
4) Download Everest and install it. It gives you almost all the specs of your computer.
5) The speed may have been written somewhere in the manual..
The seek time is probably slow too. A 7ms seek time on a 5800rpm hard drive would do better in bench marks than on an 8.5ms 7200rpm hard drive. |

Well, that's what I think the case is. It's not a matter whether the computer is new or not. I could have the fastest processor in the world but have the slowest hard drive or little RAM; my processor won't mean much of anything. Average consumers overlook these kind of things and this is how companies make their money.
Stores usually give you option to upgrade some stuff, but forcing you to add more to the payment, which most of the costumers try to stay away from. Most of the people don't really look into the other questionable specs of a computer. My parents, for example, think that the more space in the hard drive, the better. Speed of the hard drive never occured to their mind.
If bought from a local store, there are usually displays of computers for people to get their hands-on. If the system you bought is much slower from the one you've tried from the store, then you oughta complain to them why it is such the case. Otherwise, if you're not satisfied with the performance with the system from the store, you wouldn't have bought it in the first place, correct? |

| lol, you had me right on target. I only looked at the space of the hard drive and didn't look for the speed of it when i was shopping around. But, will it really affect your internet usage? and i don't really go crazy with it, at most i'll have two windows open and that's it, but it will still "freeze" like i described above |

| Hard drive speed will affect anything, from clicking on the start button from your taskbar to opening My Computer or any applications because this is where your operating system [Windows XP Media Center Edition] is running. |

well it seemed for awhile that this error stopped but just lately it seems to have started again in where it freezes and then it comes back and it only does this on internet Exploring programs and while i view pictures on my computer. and i have noticed that the only thing that freezes is the screen and not the mouse. _________________ Want advice DONT WORK AT WALMART...
