|
lately it seems that my computer freezes for a few moments then the screen goes blank then comes back on is this just a refresh method or is it a warning. (this seems to have just started happening in the last few days and i was just wondering) Btw for those of you who read my post earlier this is also a reason for me wanting to change.
If there is anyway to fix this can you please tell me.
It gets annoying after awhile Especially when i am searching through large amounts of words
Oh and one more thing it seems to be fine its only when i am scrolling through a search list. (say i typed something in google as i am scrolling down it might freeze then go blank for a few seconds that kindof thing)
Please do help me if possible.
Hope its Fixable. _________________ Want advice DONT WORK AT WALMART... Theres your freebie... |

Have you tried putitng in a different hard drive that has an operating system on it just to see if the problem is coming from the hardware and not the software?
Have you defragged your hard drive? I noticed that the speed of the hard drive on the Compaq is 5400 RPM. Not only that, your system has 128MB of RAM. Unless you've upgraded those, which I have no idea if you have.
Have you tried to get rid of unnecessary softwares running in the background? Have you tried to get rid of adwares and viruses? These little things affect a lot especially on a computer with little resource and slow hard drive.
Is the video card properly placed in? Also, which driver is the video card using? The integrated one or one that you bought? There may have a conflict between the two or there is something wrong with the AGP slotted video card.
Are there any extra stuff connected in like other hard drives? What is this video card that you bought or how much power does it consume? Maybe your computer isn't getting enough power.
What kind of monitor do you have? Is it an LCD or a VGA? If it's an LCD, is it connected through DVI cable?
Have you tried moving your computer to a different room and use it there? Do you get the same problem? |

o do have a different HDD as a matter of fact i have 2 Diferrent HDD and my main one is 7200 rpms
no i have not Defragged in a while i will do that now
i have no software to do that currently but i will also try that
yes the video card is placed in properly and if there was something wrong with the AGP slot would i be able to see at all.
Yes currently i have 2 Hard drives 1 80Gig 7200 rpm (main) and another 80Gig 4200 (junker(by that i mean really older model)) i am running the Nvidia XFX 6200 Video Card. (you know come to think of it. it does seem pretty weird that this only started happening after i connected the older HDD.
its a vga and all the cables are connected firmly and tightened well
can't due to circumstances i only can use the place its in currently (one room appartment)
I guess i forgot to mention almost all the parts are upgraded as in my memory is no longer 128 its now 768 and as stated before the HDD is an 80Gig 7200rpm _________________ Want advice DONT WORK AT WALMART... Theres your freebie... |

And what is the spec on this new power supply that you bought? Your XFX 6200 will consume 117 watts during idle and 200W during full load. Adding in another hard drive would add more load on the power consumption.
Woops, I messed up on my question. I wanted to ask whether if your monitor was LCD or CRT. Because I have a friend who connected his LCD monitor through VGA connection and the monitor would always go down on him. He also had to move to a different (while being connected through VGA) just to delay more of the monitor shutdowns. I guess it would differ on the manufacturing of the LCD monitor.
And the video card is fitted in well into the AGP slot, right? Same goes for the RAM sticks. |

It really sucks i have disconnected the second HDD as i stated before and it still did it just not as often i have only Windows Defender it seems to detect some things. i am going to go and get adaware and spybot. and in addition i have aol so i might as well get the aol safety and security center as well. i am also going to run the disk Defrag. my HDD is about 25% full so it will take awhile so i will not be able to tell you if it is fixed till around 8 tomorow.
EDIT: could i switch the voltage output with the little switch in the back of the computer (its currently set to 115v) i have never switched it before and i dont want to (plz excuse my french) fuck my computer up. _________________ Want advice DONT WORK AT WALMART... Theres your freebie... |

That switch is just to regulate the voltage that's coming in. If you live in the U.S. or Japan, setting the switch to 200-something volts will do nothing since U.S.'s standard output is around 120V and Japan is 110V. Actually, the PSU will most likely not function at all under that setting.
If you live in Europe or Australia, you'll most likely see a flash, hear a bang, and smell smoke if you set it to 115V since their outlets' output is around 230V. Notice that no word of "wattage" is mentioned. |

Shorten life span of the computer. Just like how it is bad from getting a bad power supply, most of the computer parts won't run properly because the power distribution isn't stable. Hard drives die because it doesn't get the proper voltage it's getting or rather it's unstable. Miscalculations like when encoding a video, a color red may look blue or the audio may not be in sync with the video. Corrupted files when downloading or uploading, or extracting or archiving/compressing. Shorten life of CPU and graphics card since they may not be getting the power they needed.
These are just the possibilities that I came up with. The hard drives thing is definite, though. That I'm sure. |

| so then this "freezing" problem is due to problems w/ the hard drive? does this mean that the hard drive on my laptop is also faulty?? |

Not faulty, maybe a little too slow. Also, what is the spec on that laptop? maybe memory's too low too? And what is the version of Windows XP are you using? |
